I GO <br />The Chief reported that; he felt that the telephone service after <br />five o'clock in the evening was not such as the Police Department should <br />have for adequate and efficient service'to'the public and suggested that <br />all telephonep,in this department be independent lines. The matter was <br />referred to the Clerk and to the Chief for further investigation. <br />F <br />The meeting adjourned at 11:50 A. M. <br />ATTEST: Clerk <br />Chairman <br />J <br />SPECIAL MEETING January 29, 1936 <br />- Special meeting of the Board of Public Safaty,was held on January 29, <br />1936 at 10:00 A; M. All members were present. <br />The Board considered the advisability of sending representatives on <br />a Safety Expedition isponsored by the Studebaker Corporation: This <br />Expedition is to leave South Bend on Monday, February 3rd and to visit <br />the cities of Evanston Illinois; Milwaukee, Wisconson; Louisvi,'Ile, <br />Kentucky; Cincinnati. Cleveland and Toledo t , Ohio to he safety <br />$ <br />problem. The Board authorized the expenditure of 50.00 for expenses and <br />the Chief of Police was instructed to use this,as judicially as possible <br />and;use his own judgment as to whether to send one or two men and to make <br />the seledtion of th6 men himself. <br />lurray C. <br />The Chief reported that he had carefully investigated 11 <br />ThoiA&S, an applicant for position on the Police Department, and recom- <br />mended him for use in the service. The Board approved the appointment <br />to effect February ist and the applicant to be on probation for six <br />months', subject to assignment by the Chief of' Police. <br />The Chief was also requested to report on all Officers on probation <br />each month until probation period has expired. <br />The meeting adjourned at 11:15 A.
