Representatives of business men and residents of River Park, <br />namely; Mr. Joseph Vogel, Don Malcolm and Don Ross, presented a <br />petition requesting that a suitable traffic signal be placed at. the <br />intersection of Mishawaka Avenue and 30th Street. It was regularly <br />moved by Mr. Anderson, seconded by Mr. Woodward and carried that the <br />,matter be referred to Mr. Qualls to ascertain the practicability of <br />this procedure and to the Clerk for investigation as to availability <br />of funds to meet the expense. <br />FIRE DEPARTMENT Chief Freeh present: <br />Examination of Russell Hoffman, applicant for position as fireman, <br />was made during the Board Meeting in the presence of the Chief and it <br />was decided to hold vacancy now on the Fire Department open until a <br />later date, so that further investigation of applicants can be made. <br />The Chief submitted a new form of Fire Department Application <br />Blanks which is a copy of one suggested by the Fire Prevention Depart- <br />ment of the Western Actuarial Bureau, suggesting that beadopted <br />' <br />instead of the present application form. A copy application <br />was sent to each of the members of the Board for analysis and study. <br />The Chief referred to the matter of Otto Pfaffenbach, which was <br />brought up by Mr. Seebirt earlier in the month, and the Secretary was <br />instructed to write Mr. Seebirt that the Board could take no action <br />regarding this, in view of the fact that this matter had already been <br />in the Courts and no action against Mr. Pfaffenbach was taken at that <br />time. <br />A claim was presented by Dr. Richard 'vi. Holdeman for services in <br />connection with fire on Michigan Street on December 26th in the amount <br />of 425.00. Before passing this claim, the Board referred the matter <br />to the Chief of the Fire Department for investigation and report. <br />Application for position on the Fire Department from Earl F. Null <br />was presented to the Board and ordered placed on file. <br />The Chief of the Fire Department submitted to the Board the <br />twenty -ninth annual report of the Firemen's Pension Fund for the year <br />1935. This report is now on file in the office of the Board of Public <br />Safety. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT - Chief Lane present: <br />The matter of vacancy on the Police Department was discussed and <br />the Chief reported that he had made some investigation in reference <br />to the application of Murray Thomas, but that his investigation had <br />not been completed. the Board instructed him to make a further <br />investigation of this and other applicants and to report in time for <br />a special meeting before the close of the month, so that the vacancy <br />can be filled by February lst. <br />The matter of physical training at the Y.M.C.A. for police <br />officers- was discussed and it was found that few of the officers were <br />taking advantage of the opportunity. The Chief was instructed to <br />again bring the matter before them and advise them that such as <br />desired to take this training could make arrangements with the <br />officials of the y.M.C.A. <br />25' <br />MEE TING January 27, <br />1936 <br />Regular meeting of the <br />Board of Public <br />Safety was held on <br />Monday, <br />January 27, 1936 at 9:30 A. <br />M. All <br />members <br />were present. <br />Minutes of previous meeting <br />were read <br />and approved. <br />Requisitions bearing numbers 08836 to <br />08851 were approved. <br />Claims. <br />from the following suppliers <br />in the <br />amount <br />of p369.04 were allowed and <br />ordered paid, also payrolls <br />of the various <br />departments in the amount <br />of 4 ,001.39. <br />Western Union Telegraph Co <br />X5.67 <br />Ind. & <br />Mich.
