2'r)- <br />SPECIAL MEETING September 20, 1935 <br />Special meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on', Friday, <br />September 20, 1935 at 2:30 P. M. All members were present including <br />Chief of Police Lane and I6Ir. Coverdale, a representative of the Cab <br />drivers. <br />In view of the fact that the Controller was notified by telegram <br />by the Franklin'Insurance Company that insurance of private operators <br />under their policy was cancelled, due to strike situation, the Board, <br />after considerable discussion decided that it would prohibit the operation <br />of taxicabs on the streets of South Bend until all operators gave written <br />assurance by the Insurance Companies that they are protected on all points <br />of insurance policies, including civil commotion or riot. <br />The Chief of Police was directed to orally notify all operators and <br />the Secretary was instructed to direct the following communication to <br />them: <br />f "At a special meeting of the Board of Public Safety of the City of <br />South Bend held on September 20th in the Board office, it was the <br />decision of the Board that no taxicabs be permitted to operate upon 'the <br />streets of South Bend until further notice. You will, therefore, <br />discontinue your operations. <br />The Board, by this action on said date, hereby rescinds previous <br />permits issued to the respective Taxicab Companies. Please be governed <br />accordingly." <br />The meeting adjourned at 3:30 P. M. <br />Chairman <br />ATTEST: Clerk <br />
