MEETING September 16, 1935 <br />Regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, <br />September 16, 1935 at 9:15 A. M. All members were present. <br />Minutes of meeting of September 9th were read and approved. <br />Requisitions bearin numbers 08630 to 08636, inclusive, were approved. <br />Claims in the amount of 696.21, from the following suppliers, were approved <br />and ordered paid. <br />Business Systems, Inc. $7.34 So. Knapp Seed & Feed Store 5.50 � City Water Works 412.12 <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT - Chief Lane present: <br />As ordered at preceding meeting of Board, the following Police <br />Officers were interviewed with reference to accidents to police cars <br />experienced recently: Officers Kubiak and Ellis, who in.the operation of <br />car #5 caused damage to the front axle and gasoline tank to the extent of <br />approximately $8.80; Officers Tholander and Rzepka, who operating car #3 <br />damaged the front door and glass to the extent of approximately 48.00 and <br />Frank Ferger, who brought in borrowed car #11 with rear end and trans- <br />mission torn out making a total expense -of $14.58. These Officers were <br />questioned carefully regarding their accidents and were informed that while <br />no charge would be made against them for this extra expense at this time <br />that the Board expected them to use police cars as they would their own, <br />driving carefully and eliminating all unnecessary expense and using care. <br />at all times in the operation of the cars. With this admonition the <br />Officers were excused. <br />The question of gambling was again discussed with the Chief. Several <br />gambling devices were discussed and the Chief was instructed to bring in <br />a certain type of pin machine, if found operating, on which there is a`jacl <br />pot or pay -off, as a test case. <br />The Chief advised that he had not found the opportunity to call in <br />Louis Curl of the Lincoln Hotel but would do so at an early date. <br />Continuation certificate 'of Fred H. Miller in the Employers Liability <br />Assurance Corporation was approved by the Board. <br />Mr. F. 0. Schoeppel, Principal of the Washington School, called <br />attention of the Board to parking of cars on West Sample Street at the! <br />end of the street car line, stating when the car is standing at the end <br />of the line and cars are parked at the curb it congests traffic severei/y, <br />another car to pass. The Board, after <br />as there is hardly room for <br />I onsidering the matter, felt no action should be taken as this same <br />condition prevails at all points on Sample Street. <br />Police applications were filed by the following: Gorth Love and <br />Marion F. Symanowski. <br />Mr. Andrew Weisburg, Manager of the Oliver Hotel, appeared before the <br />Board and requested restricted parking on the Washington Street side of <br />the Oliver Hotel for one additional car. The Board advised Mr. Weisburg <br />they would take this matter under consideration. <br />FIRE DEPARTMENT - Chief Freel present: <br />Matters regarding the Fire Department were discussed but nothing of <br />importance being brought up no action was t <br />ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT - Mr. Qualls present: <br />. Matters with reference to the Electrical Department and with <br />reference to traffic conditions were discussed and Mr. Quails was <br />instructed`to carefully look over the recent Survey of the Chicago Motor <br />Club in connection with our Engineering Department acaltouteofrepared the <br />to make such suggestions as he felt w e the Survey. <br />fifty recommendations that are.supported'by <br />The meeting adjourned at 11:15 A.
