1 � k • <br />MEETING August.12, 1935 <br />Regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, <br />August 12, 1935 at 8:30 A. M. All members were present. <br />The minutes of meeting of August 5th were read and approved. <br />Requisitions bearin numbers 08603 to 08607, inclusive, were approved. <br />Claims in the amount of 1744.03, also payroll for the first half of the <br />month of. August amounting to $16,794.02 were approved. The claims are <br />represented as follows: <br />Frank S. Andrews $32.42 The Gibson Co. $4.20 <br />Frank S. Co. 2.59 <br />FIRE DEPARTMENT - Chief Freeh present: <br />Matters in general pertaining to his department were discussed. <br />Application for position as fireman was received from Raymond L. <br />Houser. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT - Chief Lane present: <br />Matters pertaining to the Police Department were discussed. <br />The Chief notified the Board that the Dog Kennel operated by Miss <br />Wolf on North Sheridan Road'had been removed. <br />A communication to the Board from Mayor Freyermuth in regard to dog <br />nuisance on Lincoln Way East was referred to Chief Lane. <br />A communication from the South Bend News -Times in regard to painting <br />symbols at the location of every automobile accident in South Bend during <br />1935 to date, suggesting that plan be worked out with the assistance of <br />the City Engineering Department, the traffic division of the Police <br />Department and the Boy Scouts of South Bend, was referred to Mr. Gunderson, <br />Chicago Traffic Expert for recommendations. <br />A request from Mr. V. H. Shreve to place candy vending machines in <br />city Buildings and pay the Police Pension Fund 100 of gross sales was <br />turned down by the Board. <br />A request to the Board.from Mr. Fred Champaigne for regular police <br />badge in place of special police badge, which he now has, was not granted. <br />Police applications were received from James Robert Baucom and <br />Raymond L. Houser and ordered placed on file. <br />ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT - Mr. Qualls not present: <br />The July report of fire alarms handled in comparison with those of <br />previous months and years was received from Mr. Qualls. <br />A report that Boiler No. 1 in Police and Fire Alarm Station was in <br />satisfactory condition was received from The Hartford Steam Boiler <br />Inspection and.Insuranee Company and placed on file. <br />DOG POUND <br />Mr. Wood presented his report for the month of July to the Board <br />showing 198 dogs impounded, 189 dogs destroyed and 109 cats destroyed. <br />Gasoline consumption for the month was 58 gallons, oil consumption <br />15 quarts and mileage travelled 1,089. <br />The meeting adjourned at 11:15 A.
