AUGUST 5, 1935 <br />-Regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held at 10:00 A. M. <br />Monday, August 5,- 1935. R.,3, Box 28, North Sheridan Road, appeared <br />before the Board and complained with reference to one of his neighbors <br />operating a Dog Kennel, claiming that not only were the surroundings un- <br />healthy and obnoxious but that they made a practice of blockading the <br />alley with their automobiles which leads to Mr. King's garage, He requested <br />investigation and action. The matter was carefully considered and the <br />Secretary was instructed to get in touch with the Health Department, Building <br />Department and Police Department for investigation and report at the next <br />Board Meeting. <br />FIRE DEPARTMENT - Chief Freeh present: <br />Matters in general pertaining to the Fire Department were discussed and <br />Chief Freeh requested the privilege of purchasing at this time some li and,- <br />-J 2 inoh'1ose, which is needed at several Fire Stations, also 100 ft. of <br />1 inch booster hose. A discussion followed and Mr. Anderson suggested <br />that if the Chief could postpone this purchase for a matter of a month or <br />a month and a half without jeopardizing fire protection to the City that: <br />the purchase be postponed because there may be some need of transferring <br />the funds for some other purpose where it may be more seriously needed. <br />The Chief agreed to do this, but was given the privilege of purchasing <br />100 ft. of 1 inch booster hose at a cost of approximately $50.00. <br />The matter of purchase of pumping engine was discussed fully with the <br />Chief, after which it was regularly moved, seconded and carried that, acting_ <br />upon the recommendation of the committee of Engineers appointed by the <br />Mayor, contract be submitted to the Common Council for the purchase of a <br />Pirsch Pumping Engine for the sum of $11,250.00. Their bid being based <br />upon supplying one of their Model 16 H, which was submitted on June 24, 19350' <br />The Chief again brought up the matter of repair to truck No. 1, on <br />which the estimated expense is approximately $3,882.00. After a full <br />discussion, the matter was referred to the City Controller to investigate <br />how necessary funds could be secured. <br />ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT - Mr. Qualls present: <br />Matters pertaining to the Electrical Department were discussed, but <br />there being nothing of importance no action was taken. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT Chief Lane present: <br />Matters pertaining to the Police Department were discussed, but other <br />important matters having the attention of the Board a complete report of <br />the Chief was not obtained but was postponed until the next regular <br />meeting. <br />A communication from the Traffic Survey Committee, following up a <br />request that stop signs at Twykenham Drive and Wayne Street be reversed, <br />was presented to the Board with their recommendation that after a careful <br />study..'of the location stop signs,,if they were necessary at all, should be <br />rev-6rqe,4;-. It was recommended that they be eliminated entirely from the <br />intersEo.iion, as visibility is good in all directions. The Board gave the <br />Secre'ary instructions to notify the Police Department to remove these signs. <br />
