Definite decision as to selection of
fire truck to be purchased was postponed pending a further conference
with the Mayor.
Mr. Howell, representing a Fire Extinguisher Company, appeared
before the Board and complained regarding the practice of the Fire
Department in furnishing to merchants and others in the City refills for
their fire extinguishers -at lower rates than would be charged if these
purchases were made from an Extinguisher Company, claiming that this
eliminated the possibility of their doing business at standard rates.
The Chief of the Fire Department was instructed to increase his price
to these merchants to correspond with the rates charged by the Extinguisher
Company to take effect at once.
Application for fireman was received from Herbert L. Jones and ordered
placed on file.
ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT - Mr. Qualls present:
Matters pertaining to regulation of traffic signals were discussed
_ and it was brought out that the change recently made in the timing of
signals and the regulation of traffic was being well received by the public
and that no changes would be considered at this time.
The matter of routing all trucks through the City was _discussed and
it was agreed that some definite action along this line should be taken
but was postponed awaiting further investigation and development.
POLICE DEPARTMENT - Chief Lane present:
Various matters of vital importance in the Police Department were
discussed with the Chief and it is expected that his investigation of these
matters will develop further facts which he will report at the next meeting.
A Petition was received by residents in the vicinity of 712 Wenger
Street requesting that the Department put a stop to all playing in the alley
at the rear of this residence because it was a menace to the peace and order
of the neighborhood and because of the fact that it caused destruction of
property. The Police Department had previously investigated this matter
and found no basis for serious complaint, but on recommendation it was again
referred to the Chief of Police on his return from his vacation.
Walter S. Osler formerly had a police commission while working for the
W. 0. W.`issued in 1930. Investigation showed that this had been dis-
continued and the Secretary recalled the commission and his badge. Mr.'
Csler requests that a new commission be given him which has been referred
to the Chief of Police for investigation.
I
I ''. I
1
A
