�L ICE "DEPARTMEITT: - Chief Lane present: <br />F <br />-2,01, <br />The question of special police commissions was fully discussed with Chief <br />La e, and it was decided that in the future no charge shall be made,,for special <br />.poLice badges. It was also decided that no one shall be appointed as a.Special <br />Po ice Offioer.until.he has furnished a surety bond for 4.1,000.00 or is bonded <br />-by his employer. Evidence of such bond to be furnished to the office of the <br />Board of Public Safety, where a complete record shall be kept of such bonds. <br />This does not apply to employees of the City or any of its departments. <br />The Chief brought up the,question of inconvenience after five o'clock <br />ea ,.h evening vening and on Sunday in regard to telephone service, stating that without <br />an operator at these hours calls very frequently are made at the wrong desk and <br />'considerable delay is experienced. The Secretary was instructed to investigate <br />the difference in cost between a switchboard and all direct lines and to report <br />to the Board at its next meeting. <br />The Chief called attention to an incident during the last week wherein an <br />automobile had been left on the streets for a number of hours and the Police, <br />be 'ng suspicious, had it towed into Stewart's Garage and that Stewart made a <br />charge of 42.50 for towing and that upon investigation it was foundthat others <br />in this business did the ' same towing for less than one-half of this cost. <br />_1Wr Stewart was called in to explain and stated.he was justified in making such <br />a barge, on account of the investment he had in equipment, but if others would <br />to cars for a,lower fee he would be willing to do so also. The Secretary was <br />in tructed to investigate charges for towing by other operators and report at <br />thl next meeting. <br />The matter of occupancy of the old Board of Public Safety room was <br />di cussed with the Chief and he was instructed to make his recommendations for <br />00 upying this room at the next meeting of the Board on Monday, June 24th. <br />Special Police Commissions were approved by the Board and the Chief of <br />Rolice as follows: Carl Culley (Cemetery Employee), N. M. Whiteman (Cemetery <br />Employee), George Glaser (Studebaker Employee), C. D. Rogers,,H. K. Johnson,, <br />J. E. Stine and J. Elsocht, also Studebaker Employees. <br />I <br />The Secretary made a report of the claims presented up to the present <br />time for surgical and hospital fees in the various departments, also claims <br />that had been contacted but not as yet presented. Also made an estimate of <br />o requirements for the balance of the year as follows: <br />Police Department: Present claims presented $63.50 <br />Present claims not presented 285.61 <br />Anticipated fees and expenses 265.61 <br />Total §614.72 <br />Unused present appropriation $15.00 <br />Additional appropriation or transfer recommended $1,000.00 <br />Fi:te Department: Present claims $185.3.5 <br />Unused appropriation 126.55 <br />Additional appropriation or transfer recommended $200.00` <br />Electrical Department: Present claims 4135.25 <br />Appropriation or transfer recommended 4135.25 <br />The meeting adjourned at 11:00 A.
