Police Dept Chief Lane present. The chief reported that the survey of the Chicago.Llotor`Club ` in connection with the Police Dept and theLngiiieering Dept was progressing Dr A.A.Kramer appeared before the Boardand stated that 'Homer Ames, an officer on the police force was not paying his account with him.. The Chief was instructed to have officer limes at the next regular. meeting of the Board to discus the matter. Upon recommendation of the Chief of Police,officer lied `DeLee is granted'a two Elonths leave of absenee without °pay beginning`May loth at the expiration of his annual vacation. _ The. Secretary reported that since more rigid enforcement of' parking restrictions on *the Tvorth Side of LaSalle ante, there has been a request for 15 minute parking in several places.TheBoard'decided to make no changes at the present time, The City'Attonery advised the following.letterc had been.directed -to Stewarts Garage and a copy of this has been `furnished the Chief of Police. Dear 1,Jr Sewart At a meeting of the Board of-Public Safety on April 15, 1935 it was the decision of the'Board that you be `given the business; of towing cans from the streets of the city of South Bend when called by an officer of the South Bend Pgl ee Department. This arrangement will be effective as of May 111935 and subject to the following conditions: 1.It is the will of the Board that your Grrage is not.: o make. any solicitation for repair work for yourselves or for anyother particular garage. 2.You are to hold the car subject to orders from the owners, 3.You are to make adequate proctection against pilfering of the car or contents of.car placed in your charge by the police dept, so as to fully indemnify the city' against any loss occasioned by negligence. 4.You are to furnish twenty- four(24)hour service for this work. 'h chief reported receipt of "a letter from T.C.Clinton commending hlm :irifi., the service now being rendered the public reference to traffic rules.HVs._letter follows. Dear Chief: I want to congratulate you on your satnd on enforcement -of certain laws especially in regard to traffic rules and regulations., But there is one very important phase in respect to.proper tail and:kead lights on automobiles and trucks,which,under the present administration, seems to be sadly neglected. Friends from out of town,who come to visit.up remark about so many ears with only one head light,and /or no tail light and in some.. instances neither head 'lights nor tail light. Last night in driving from my home to the corner of Milton and Miami, -1 counted over fifteen cars that.. had only bne' t head light,no tail light,or no head lights at all. It is „needless to express the .hazard..to_ other motorists and pedestria?ls this practice creates. A drive on cars with improper_:lights,would fit in nicely with the other good work you are doing .
