Police Dept Chief Lane present. <br />The chief reported that the survey of the Chicago.Llotor`Club ` in <br />connection with the Police Dept and theLngiiieering Dept was progressing <br />Dr A.A.Kramer appeared before the Boardand stated that 'Homer Ames, <br />an officer on the police force was not paying his account with him.. <br />The Chief was instructed to have officer limes at the next regular. <br />meeting of the Board to discus the matter. <br />Upon recommendation of the Chief of Police,officer lied `DeLee is <br />granted'a two Elonths leave of absenee without °pay beginning`May loth <br />at the expiration of his annual vacation. _ <br />The. Secretary reported that since more rigid enforcement of' parking <br />restrictions on *the Tvorth Side of LaSalle ante, there has been a request <br />for 15 minute parking in several places.TheBoard'decided to make no <br />changes at the present time, <br />The City'Attonery advised the following.letterc had been.directed -to <br />Stewarts Garage and a copy of this has been `furnished the Chief of <br />Police. <br />Dear 1,Jr Sewart <br />At a meeting of the Board of-Public Safety on April 15, <br />1935 it was the decision of the'Board that you be `given the business; <br />of towing cans from the streets of the city of South Bend when called <br />by an officer of the South Bend Pgl ee Department. <br />This arrangement will be effective as of May 111935 and subject <br />to the following conditions: <br />1.It is the will of the Board that your Grrage is not.: o make. <br />any solicitation for repair work for yourselves or for anyother <br />particular garage. <br />2.You are to hold the car subject to orders from the owners, <br />3.You are to make adequate proctection against pilfering of <br />the car or contents of.car placed in your charge by the police dept, <br />so as to fully indemnify the city' against any loss occasioned by <br />negligence. <br />4.You are to furnish twenty- four(24)hour service for this work. <br />Trusting that these arrangements will be entirely satisfactory to <br />both parties,we are. <br />.Very Truly.Yours - <br />Board of Public Safety. <br />By---- - - - - -- ----- --- - -- <br />The question of inada,quacy of some appropriations was discussed and <br />the'a chief was instructed to confer with the secretary and report at <br />a later meeting. <br />'h chief reported receipt of "a letter from T.C.Clinton commending <br />hlm :irifi., the service now being rendered the public reference to traffic <br />rules.HVs._letter follows. <br />Dear Chief: <br />I want to congratulate you on your satnd on enforcement <br />-of certain laws especially in regard to traffic rules and regulations., <br />But there is one very important phase in respect to.proper <br />tail and:kead lights on automobiles and trucks,which,under the present <br />administration, seems to be sadly neglected. <br />Friends from out of town,who come to visit.up remark about <br />so many ears with only one head light,and /or no tail light and in some.. <br />instances neither head 'lights nor tail light. <br />Last night in driving from my home to the corner of <br />Milton and Miami, -1 counted over fifteen cars that.. had only bne' t <br />head light,no tail light,or no head lights at all. <br />It is „needless to express the .hazard..to_ other motorists <br />and pedestria?ls this practice creates. <br />A drive on cars with improper_:lights,would fit in <br />nicely with the other good work you are doing . <br />Yours Very Truly, <br />T.C.Clinton <br />Mr Bartol and Ts Wainwright of the citie ss Service Coil Co appeared before <br />the board to eresent a claim for gasoline furnished the Police Dept <br />
