REGULAR MEETING <br />Regular meeting -of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, ,Tan. <br />149,'1935 at 8:30 A. M. All members present. The.Mayor and his Secretary <br />also attended. <br />Minutes of meeting of January 7 were read and approved. <br />It was moved seconded and carried that the Board being informed by the <br />Chief of Police that, subsequent to its meeting on January 7th, a <br />vacancy occurred in the South Bend Police Department by reason of the <br />resignation of Patrolman Ellis Diver, indicating a moot question as to <br />whether the action of January 7th in removing Casimir Kubiak can be <br />sustained, this Board finds that the action of January 7th should be <br />countermanded and that said Casimir Kubiak is now placed on the roll <br />of the South Bend Police Department to take the place of Patrolman <br />Ellis Diver which vacancy did not exist as of January 7th and the <br />Chief of Police is ordered to assign Casimir Kubiak to such a place on <br />the department as he may see f'it, and is to read to return to the <br />Department as of December 31, 1934. <br />Bills bearing the following requisition numbers were approved: <br />08025 08046 08010 08034 08047 08044 07936 08045 07996 08036 08020 02932 <br />also the claims of Dr. Stanley Clark $15.00 and $23.00 and Western <br />Union $6.89,. a total of all claims of $258.10. <br />Mr. Henry Lewis, organizer, appeared before the Board to remonstrate <br />against the removal of Dan Kelly, W. L. Kazmirski and J. H. McKnight. <br />After fully discussing the matter no further action was taken and the <br />Board sustained the Mayor in his action in removing them. <br />FIRE DEPARTMENT: <br />-Chief Wm. Freeh present. <br />It was moved, seconded and carried that Lieutenants Hubert Rozewicz, <br />Homer Perkins and Anthony Sroda be demoted from Lieutenant to Fireman <br />and that Henry Tesehke, Edward Wilkewitz and Paul Wagner be promoted to <br />lieutenants. <br />It was moved seconded and carried that the Board of Safety accept the <br />donation of 25.00 from St. Mary's College and that Chief Freeh be <br />instructed to allocate it to the-Pension Fund and the Secretary was <br />instructed to write a letter of apprec- '-ation to St. Mary's College. <br />It was moved, seconded.and carried that the Secretary be instructed <br />to get bids on 1000 feet of fire hose. <br />It was moved, seconded and carried that the case of the 0. M. Swihart <br />accident be referred to the City Attorney for disposition. <br />The following applications were approved and ordered placed on file: <br />Theodore S. Paczesny, Earl R. Parker and Vance Rzepka. <br />Harry R. Farnham appeared before the Beard to remonstrate against the <br />parking privilege.given to the Union Bus Lines at 214 N. PJiichigan St. <br />by the previous Board of Safety. He stated it was violating a former <br />decision of the Board not to give such privilege to Bus Lines east of <br />Lafayette St. or on a car line. It was moved, seconded and carried that <br />the matter be referred to the .Chief of Police. <br />ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT: <br />Mr..Qualls present. <br />Matters pertaining to-this department were discussed. <br />POLICE' DEPARTMENT: <br />C iof Lane present. <br />Matters pertaining to the department were fully discussed. <br />Applications for positions as police officers as follows were approved <br />and placed on file: Frank Garab, John H.
