RESOLUTION NO. 30-2018 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS <br />OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA <br />APPROVING DONATION TO REGIONAL CITIES INITIATIVE <br />WHEREAS, the City of South Bend, Indiana, Board of Public Works (the "Board") exists <br />and operates in accordance with the laws of the State of Indiana; and <br />WHEREAS, Michiana Partnership, Inc. d/b/a South Bend I Elkhart Regional Partnership <br />("SBERP") is an Indiana non-profit corporation organized to serve the communities of north - <br />central Indiana (the "Region"), including the City of South Bend (the "City") through relationship <br />building between local institutions of higher education and the communities, improving the <br />physical and social connectivity within the Region, and investing in programs and facilities that <br />influence economic, work force, and community issues for the benefit of the Region; and <br />WHEREAS, the Indiana Regional Cities Initiative is a program designed to help Indiana <br />communities work together to develop a strategic plan to attract and retain talented individuals; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, SBERP manages the Regional Cities Initiative in the Region ("Regional <br />Cities Initiative"), which includes the City; and <br />WHEREAS, the goals of the Regional Cities Initiative are to educate a world -class <br />workforce, recruit and retain talent, attract and grow companies in complement to existing <br />manufacturing, assist entrepreneurs, and promote the inclusion and opportunities for minorities; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, the City through its Department of Community Investment ("DCI") connects <br />residents to economic opportunities and incentivizes businesses and entrepreneurs to locate and <br />expand in the City, and, in so doing, desires to attract, develop, and retain a talented workforce; <br />and <br />WHERAS, DCI has determined that SBERP is an ideal partner for assisting with local <br />economic and workforce development efforts due to SBERP's experience and expertise, including <br />its knowledge of the local and regional economy, working relationships with local government, <br />understanding of available incentives, and ability to make connections; and <br />WHEREAS, SBERP is seeking contributions from various stakeholders, including private <br />investors, local government, higher education institutions, and community foundations, to promote <br />and support the Regional Cities Initiative; and <br />WHEREAS, DCI wishes to promote and support the Regional Cities Initiative by <br />committing to donate a total of Thirty Thousand Dollars ($30,000) over a four-year period from <br />2018 through 2021 to SBERP for that purpose; and <br />WHEREAS, DCI intends to provide the first installment to its four-year commitment to <br />
