He then gave
the floor to the presenters.
Update- Zoning Ordinance: Off-Street Parking-Mike Divita, Community Investment
Michael Divita, Principal Planner for the Department of Community Investment with offices on
the 14th floor of the County-City Building, stated, I am here today to give a bit of a heads up on
the next couple of Zoning Ordinance changes we are looking at. I will speak to the off-street
parking and Larry will speak to the proposed changes to the Sub-division ordinance. So, a few
months ago, DCI, Area Plan and the Building Department all looked at some Zoning Ordinance
amendments that Council approved. We have seen some good results from that on several projects.
They have been able to advance more quickly because of those changes. Since then, we have
examined some other areas of the Zoning Ordinance where more changes could be made to achieve
the same results. Again,we are looking at places in the Ordinance that people apply for exceptions
but always tend to be granted. We are looking for ways to reduce unnecessarily burdensome
requirements within the Ordinance. We are also looking at ways to simplify the administration of
the Ordinance.
Mr. Divita continued, One (1) of the next areas we are tackling is the off-street parking. The
Ordinance's current minimum parking standards are really based on a decade's old, suburban
calculation on how parking should be. That is not relevant and doesn't match today's reality.
