C. A. Buff President, <br />Boa rd of Public E>afe ty , <br />South Bend, Indiana. <br />'dear 1'r. Budd: <br />Please call your Board into a special meeting for the purnos e of suspend- <br />ing Chief of Police, John F. Kuespert, from his duties as cnlef of police <br />of the City of South Bend until a thorough end fair invest ig<tion of all <br />circumstances surrounding the telephone call_ I received this morning. <br />Confirming my conversation with you, it was my understanding T was talking <br />to Chief of Police, John P Kuespert, who said to me: "If ,you come near <br />the City Fall today, I'll kill you.." A nev..rspaper reporter informs me <br />that oli.e of their representatives Eras present during the conversation <br />and that their pa -per will. carry a story this evening covering ghat trens- <br />pired in the Detective Bureau at the time 1:'r. Kuespert is proported to <br />have c ^lied me <br />This suspension to be in effect until all of the facts and circumstances <br />surrounding this episode have been fully investigated, and if found to <br />be true immediate am proper action to be taken on the basis of the facts. <br />Ve rcr t xu l y your s, <br />"j. A. P so affected. Chief of Police John 8. Kuespert that he <br />lost his mental poise which resulted in a nervous breakdown. <br />- motion was r.de by Er. Trost, seconded b7r 1.'r. Gadaez and unanimously <br />carried. that Chief of Police John B.
