He then stated, I polled a few members of the public in
attendance and it seems the biggest interest today is the update on the recent flooding event. That
will take precedence with regard to the presentation. The CSO issue is something that has been
going on in the community and that is the Combined Sewer Overflow. That plays a part in the
flooding issue and also has to deal with water treatment. The process with regard to the CSO is
continuing in the hope that the original Consent Decree, which was approaching $1 billion, could
be brought down to something more affordable for the City while obtaining the same results.
Councilmember Jo M. Broden arrived at the meeting at 5:32 p.m.
Committee Chair Dr. Varner proceeded to give the floor to the presenters.
Flood update and any lessons learned
Sewer issues in the low-lying areas of South Bend
Eric Horvath,Director of Public Works with offices on the 13`h floor of the County-City Building,
stated, Good evening and thank you for inviting me to present.
