REGULAR MEETING JULY 9, 2007 <br />Mr. Stephen Range, 1206 Johnson, South Bend, Indiana, stated that the community that <br />he lives in around the 1200 block of Johnson Street is a dying community. There is so <br />much crime, drug dealing, and vacant homes in that area. He stated that they young <br />people of today are bored. They don't have anything to do, no jobs, no entertainment. If <br />you build this development on the northeast side it is just going to attract crime, drug <br />dealing and violence. The City of South Bend cannot find enough individuals to <br />maintain the establishment of the South Bend Commission onAfrican-American Males. <br />Mr. Range advised that all the negatives in the Community will find there way to the <br />northeast neighborhood. <br />Chairperson White advised that this concludes today public hearing on Bill No. 26-07 <br />and will continue this bill in the Public Hearing portion only at the Special Council <br />Meeting that has been scheduled for Monday, July 16, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. She thanked <br />everyone for their patience, comments, concerns and respect for each other. At <br />Monday's meeting they will have a list of all question and concerns and the petitioners <br />will an opportunity to respond to those issues. White, Chairperson <br />Committee of the Whole <br />REGULAR MEETING RECONVENED <br />Be it remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend reconvened in the <br />Council Chambers on the fourth floor of the County-City Building at 11:20 p.m. Council <br />President Tim Rouse presided with nine (9) members present. <br />BILLS -THIRD READING <br />ORDINANCE NO. 9770-07 AN ORDINANCE OF THE COMMON COUNCIL <br />OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, <br />ANNEXING TO AND BRINGING WITHIN THE <br />CITY LIMITS OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, <br />AND AMENDING THE ZONING ORDINANCE <br />FOR PROPERTY LOCATED IN CENTRE <br />TOWNSHIP CONTIGUOUS THEREWITH; <br />COUNCILMANIC DISTRICT 6, THE GENEVA <br />HAMILTON TRUST, CLIFFORD HAMILTON, <br />POA, NORTHEAST CORNER OF PULLING <br />STREET AND US 31 SOUTH <br />Councilmember Pfeifer made a motion to amend this bill as it was in the Committee of <br />the Whole. Councilmember Dieter seconded the motion which carried by a voice vote of <br />nine (9) ayes. Additionally, Councilmember Pfeifer made a motion pass as it was <br />amended in the Committee of the Whole. Councilmember Varner seconded the motion <br />which carried. This bill passed by a roll call vote of nine (9) ayes. <br />34 <br />
