Alward, <br />Geo. S. Dorman and John W. Starkweather, for positions in the police <br />department be accepted and placed on file. <br />Motionnprevailed that the bonds of officers Wm. H. Ortma.n, and <br />Claude Keller,'of One Thousand Dollars each ($1,000.00) and the <br />National Surety Co., as surety were approved. <br />The Board went into cession as a trial bodyto hearf the following <br />charges which were refered against officer Chas.'A. Dunning. by <br />Chief Lane. <br />1. That the said officer has foe more than two years neglected <br />his duty as a patrolman in that he has reapeatedly failed to pull <br />Spec ifie dates of <br />his box without giving and valid reason 29th. 1922; <br />this neglect being as follows:- Feb. <br />May 20th. 1922; July 11 1922• Aug. 26, 1922; Sept. 21,1922; Nov. 3,th. <br />1922 Nov. 25, 1922; Nov. 29, 1922; Dec. 1, 1922 Dec. 9, 1922 ;Jan 13, <br />5 1923• Dec. 27, 1923; Jan 1,1924; Jan 18, <br />]923; Apr�1 2, 1923; Dec. , <br />1924; Jana 22, 1924; Jan 29th, 1924; Dec. 2,1924; I futhur Barge <br />that on several oecassions said officer failed to pull his box on time, <br />and failed to give a satisfactory excuse therefor. <br />2. That the-said officer has on various occasions, within the <br />past year, the exact dates I am unable to give, been found asleep <br />while on duty. <br />Z. That during the summer of 1924. said officer was detailed to <br />dutybunder the direction of the Board of Park Commissioners of the <br />City of South Bend, and was required by his said duty to visit all.the <br />parks and patrol the same each day; that he neglected to visit some <br />of the said parks for days at a time, and on various occasions was <br />found asleep while on duty. Lane. <br />Atty. Geo. Donahue, pepresenated Mr. Dunning. <br />The Board then went into executive cession to consider evidence <br />submitted, after a pmblic hearing and submissions of all evidence, <br />the Board went into executive cession for the purpose of considering <br />all evidence submitted, after dw.e and carefull consideration the <br />Board found the said officer Chas. A. Dunning, guilty' as charged <br />and thereupon. he was dismissed from the Police fords of the City of <br />South Bend, Ind.
