Hawthorne presented weekly report for tha.week ending <br />June 8th. 1923. <br />The Bond of R. I. Na4horne, as principal and.the National Surety <br />Co. as surety for One Thousand Dollars ($1,000.00) was approved. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT : - <br />REQUISITIONB PRESENTED & AP,PROVED. <br />915 to 924 Inclusive were approved. <br />The application of Andrew Rietz, for a position in the Poliag <br />Department was approved and ordered placed on file. <br />A letter was received from the Department of 'Yublie Works, <br />requesting that soma action he taken regarding the parking of <br />automi'oles on the streets all night as same interfered, with the <br />cleaning of the streets, same was placed on file and taken under <br />advisement. <br />The following members meet with the Board,mlvla nor Seebirt, <br />me;nbers of the Board of Public Works, and Alderman: Hut chins 6. and <br />Ole,jniczak, -and after :some discussion_ relative to ,the New Police <br />& ?ire Alarm system the following resolution was passed by the <br />Board of Public Safety. <br />1171HEIREAN, we the - members of the Board of Public Safety after <br />k. personally investigating the city of South Bend, Indiana, present <br />x ` fire and Police signaL call system, and from information secured from, <br />various and different sources we are of �tt.e unanious,opinion that <br />our present sYstem is obsolete and ineffecient, dangerous and hot <br />to be relied upon in time of peril and threatened danger. <br />"THEREFORE' BE IT RESOLVED, that we go on record and by these <br />presents do go on record as favoring the _purchase and .installation <br />of a new, fire and police call systemfor the city of South. Sexes , Ind. <br />the same to be placed in a strictly fire -froof building across the alley <br />and.directly North from the present Police Headquarters.; that we send <br />a .copy of these Resolutions. "to -the, Common Council of the City,of <br />South Bend, Indiana. asking it to approve the contracts when submitted <br />and to make approptiations for the necessary funds to•lmeet the expend- <br />- itures created by the proposed,imnrovements; and f_uthur that a copy <br />of. these Resolut -ions be sent to the Board of Publig. (forks of the <br />City of South Bend, Indiana, and with it the request thatitmmediately <br />set about to secure plans and specifications for a,sutiable building <br />tonhouse the . new plants. ;4 <br />"Yfhereas, a new fire alarm and. police call system is needed in the <br />City of South Bend, Ind. and should be installed as soon as possible, <br />that our city, its citizens and ?property may be properly protected, the C <br />Clerk of the Board of Public.
