REGULAR MEETING <br />JUNE 29, 1981 <br />Greg Gaul - Fireworks stand at Veldman's Standard <br />Service Station, corner Ireland & U.S. 31 South. <br />John Childress - Fireworks stand 1621 West Washington. <br />Mr. Leszczynski noted that, in both applications, permission from the <br />property owner for location of the stand was given. He advised that <br />the Building Department and the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting had <br />no objection to the location of the above stands. Upon a motion <br />made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, the <br />Open Air Stand application of Greg Gaul was approved retroactive <br />to June 26, 1981; and the application of John Childress was approved <br />effective June 29, 1981; and both applications were referred to the <br />Deputy Controller's Office for issuance. <br />REQUEST FOR OPEN AIR STAND LICENSE — RIVER BEND PLAZA (MICHAEL HARMON) <br />An application for an Open Air Stand License on River Bend Plaza was <br />submitted by Michael Harmon, 1427 North Johnson Street, for the sale <br />of frozen yogurt out of a fully equipped, self - contained van approx- <br />imately four feet by ten feet, which van would be operated during <br />the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. In accordance with the Board's <br />policy concerning stands on the Plaza, upon a motion made by Mr. <br />Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, the request was <br />referred to Patrick M. McMahon, Director of Redevelopment, for his <br />submission to +the Downtown South Bend Council for its comments and <br />recommendations. <br />REQUEST TO CONDUCT STREET SERVICES <br />A request from Reverend Underwood, 110 South Chicago, was received <br />for permission to conduct street services near the Southeast Neigh- <br />borhood Center, Chapin and Wayne Street area, Washington and Walnut <br />Street area and the LaSalle Park area, on Saturdays and Sundays <br />between the hours of 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. It was the concensus <br />of the Board that no action was needed since Reverend Underwood <br />would be preaching on the city sidewalk or from private residences, <br />in which case permission from the property owner would be needed,, <br />provided that no amplification system or podium was used. <br />REQUEST TO PURCHASE CITY -OWNED PROPERTY(705 E. WENGER) <br />A request was received from Earnestine Mitchell, 703 East Wenger, <br />inquiring into the possibility of purchasing the city -owned lot <br />adjacent to her property at 705 E. Wenger. Upon a motion made by <br />Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, the request was <br />referred to the various city agencies for a determination as to <br />whether or not the city need retain the lot for any reason. <br />APPROVAL OF BLOCK PARTY REQUESTS <br />A request from Thomas R. Swartz, President of the North Shore <br />Triangle Neighborhood Association, was received for permission to <br />conduct a block party and close a portion of Marquette and Wakewa <br />between Main and Iroquois on Sunday, July 5, 1981, from 3:00 p.m. <br />to 7:00 p.m. Mr. Leszczynski noted that the Bureau of Traffic <br />and Lighting had no objection to the closing of the street. Upon <br />a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, <br />the request was approved. <br />A similar request for a block party in the 1400 block of East <br />LaSalle Street, on Sunday, July 12, 1981, from 7:00 a.m. to <br />midnight was received from R. H. Metzcus, 1421 East LaSalle. Mr. <br />Leszczynski noted that the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting had no <br />objection to the closing of the street. Upon a motion made by Mr. <br />Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, the request was approved. <br />L7 <br />
