REGULAR MEETING JUNE 10. 1980 A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was convened at 4:00 p.m., on Tuesday, June 10, 1980, by Mr. Joseph E. Kernan in the absence of the Board President, with Mr. Kernan and Mr. Richard L. Hill present. The regular meeting had been scheduled for Monday, June 9, 1980, at 9:30 a.m., however, it had been re- scheduled to June 10th due to lack of a quorum. MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING APPROVED Upon a motion made by Mr. Kernan, seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, the minutes of the regular meeting of June 2, 1980, were approved as submitted. AGENDA ITEMS ADDED Mr. Kernan stated that the following items would be added to the agenda and considered by the Board immediately after filing of the Street Light Outage Report: Reqeust of Jaycees to operate a Dunk Tank at Ethnic Festival Application of Eckankar for food booth at Ethnic Festival Request to relocate Air Force fighter plane display from Baer's block to Century Center parking lot Request for block party (Oak Street) Tent Sale (Eslinger) Upon a motion made by Mr. Hill, seconded by Mr. Kernan and carried, the above items were added to the agenda. CANCEL BOARD MEETING OF JUNE 30, 1980 Mr. Kernan announced that, because of the Fourth of July holidays to be celebrated by city employees on Thursday and Friday, July 3 and 4, 1980, the regular meeting of the Board on Monday, June 30th, would be cancelled. AWARD BIDS - STREET DEPARTMENT DE -ICING CHEMICALS Mr. John Baumgartner, Manager of the Bureau of Streets, submitted his recommendation to the Board concerning the bids received for de -icing chemicals. He recommended that the following bids be awarded: The Levy Company Calcium Chloride Slag Sand Mixture $11.25 /ton Medusa Aggregate Calcium Chloride Sand 10.15 /ton Diamond Crystal Salt Rock Salt 33.65/ton Morton Salt Rock Salt 26.94/ton International Salt Rock Salt 31.49 /ton Mr. Kernan stated that it was being recommended that awards be made to all bidders, except Domtar Industries because the proper bid security had not been furnished, thereby enabling the city to use all the companies as sources for the de -icing chemicals if needed. Upon a motion made by Mr. Kernan, seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, the recommendation of Mr. Baumgartner was approved and the above bids were awarded. AWARD BID - STREET DEPARTMENT SWEEPER Mr. John Baumgartner, Manager of the Bureau of Streets, submitted his recommendation to the Board concerning the bid received for a Street Department sweeper. He recommended that the sole bid of Ries Equip- ment Company, for a 1973 re- conditioned Elgin Pelican Sweeper in the amount of $23,500.00 be awarded. Upon a motion made by Mr. Kernan, seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, the recommendation was approved and the bid awarded to Ries Equipment Company. 7
