REGULAR MEETING <br />RESOLUTION NO. 3688-07 <br />JANUARY 22, 2007 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL <br />OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, <br />APPROVING THE ISSUANCE OF SCRAP <br />METAL/JUNK DEALERS/RECYCLING <br />OPERATION LICENSES FOR CALENDAR <br />YEAR 2006 PURSUANT TO SECTION 4-51 OF <br />THE SOUTH BEND MUNICIPAL CODE <br />Whereas, Section 4-51 of the South Bend Municipal Code sets forth the <br />regulations addressing the licensing of scrap metal dealers, junk dealers and recycling <br />operations; and <br />Whereas, on December 6, 2006 the City Business Licensing Clerk provided <br />written notice to the City Clerk that the following businesses has been approved for Scrap <br />Metal Dealer, Junk Dealer, Valuable Dealer and Recycling Operations Licenses for the <br />2006 licensing year; and <br />Steve & Gene's LLC 3109 Gertrude St. <br />South Bend Iron & Metal 429 W. Indiana Ave. <br />South Bend Waste Paper 1519 S. Franklin St. <br />Whereas, the license applications for all above-referenced businesses received <br />favorable recommendations from the Department of Code Enforcement, Fire Prevention <br />Bureau, Department of Water Works, and the Building Department. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF <br />THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, as follows: <br />Section L The license applications for the following businesses are approved in <br />conformity with South Bend Municipal Code Section 4-51 and based upon the <br />satisfactory review and inspection of the properties by the Department of Code <br />Enforcement, Fire Prevention Bureau, Department of Water Works, and the Building <br />Department as evidenced by the Business Licensing Auditor's communication to the City <br />Clerk dated December 6, 2006: <br />Steve & Gene's LLC 3109 Gertrude St. <br />South Bend Iron & Metal 429 W. Indiana Ave. <br />South Bend Waste Paper 1519 S. Franklin St. <br />Section IL This Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after its <br />adoption by the Council and approval by the Mayor. <br />s/Timothy A. Rouse <br />Member of the Common Council <br />Councilmember Charlotte Pfeifer, Chairperson, Personnel & Finance Committee, <br />reported that this committee held a Public Hearing on this bill this afternoon and voted to <br />send it to the full Council with a favorable recommendation. <br />Mr. Chuck Clark, License Auditor, Department of Administration & Finance, 227 W. <br />Jefferson Blvd., South Bend, Indiana, made the presentation for this bill. <br />Mr. Clark advised that in accordance with the procedure for the renewal of City <br />Business/Occupational licenses for the operation of Scrap MetaUJunk Dealers/Recycling <br />Operations, renewal applications for three (3) businesses were submitted to the Fire <br />Inspection Bureau, Water Works, Department of Code Enforcement and Building <br />Department. The properties were inspected for Fire Code violations, environmental <br />violations, proper maintenance of the premises and areas outside the fences, and the <br />height and condition of the surrounding fencing. All three (3) applications received <br />favorable recommendation from all departments. <br />29 <br />
