ORDINANCE N0. / ~~ AN ORDINANCE OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, ANNEXING TO THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND CERTAIN TERRITORY CONTIGUOUS THEREWITH AND LOCATED IN PORTAGE TOWNSHIP ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, INDIANA (YOUNG ANNEXATION) STATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND INTENT The Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, has determined that it is in the best interest of the City of South Bend to annex and bring within the corporate limits of the City of South Bend certain territory that is contiguous with the City of South Bend. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, as follows: SECTION I. That the following described real estate situated in St. Joseph County, Indiana, being contiguous by more than one-fourth (1/4) of its aggregate external boundaries with the present boundaries of the City of South Bend, Indiana, shall be and hereby is annexed to and brought within the City of South Bend, Indiana: THAT PART OF THE NORTHWEST QUARTER OF SECTION 22, TOWNSHIP 37 NORTH. RANGE 2 EAST, PORTAGE TOWNSHIP, ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, INDIANA, WHICH IS DESCRIBED AS: BEGINNING AT A POINT ON THE WEST LINE OF SAID SECTION 210 FEET SOUTH OF THE NORTH LINE OF SAID SECTION; THENCE WEST 1,317.65 FEET PARALLEL TO THE NORTH LINE OF SAID SECTION TO THE WEST LINE OF KALEY STREET AND ALSO BEING THE CITY LIMITS OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND; THENCE SOUTH ALONG SAID WEST LINE TO THE NORTH RIGHT- OF-WAY LINE OF STATE ROAD #23; THENCE NORTHEASTERLY ALONG SAID LINE TO THE CENTERLINE OF LOCUST ROAD (OLIVE STREET); THENCE SOUTH ALONG SAID CENTERLINE TO THE SOUTH RIGHT-OF-WAY LINE OF STATE ROAD #23; THENCE SOUTHWESTERLY ALONG SAID LINE TO A POINT 211.43 FEET FROM THE WEST LINE OF SAID SECTION; THENCE NORTH 5 DEGREES 40 MINUTES 27 SECONDS WEST 400 FEET; THENCE SOUTH 58 DEGREES 07 MINUTES 20 SECONDS WEST 177.48 FEET TO THE WEST LINE OF SAID SECTION; THENCE NORTH ALONG SAID WEST LINE TO THE POINT OF BEGINNING. SECTION II. That the above-described real estate is needed and can be used by the City for its development in the reasonably near future. SECTION III. That the boundaries of the City of South Bend, Indiana, shall be and hereby are declared to be extended so as to include all of the above-described real estate as a part of the City of South Bend, Indiana. SECTION IV. That the above-described area shall be and hereby is assigned to the 6th Councilmanic District of the City of South Bend, Indiana. SECTION V.
