ORDINANCE N0. / ~~ <br />AN ORDINANCE OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, ANNEXING TO THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND <br />CERTAIN TERRITORY CONTIGUOUS THEREWITH <br />AND LOCATED IN PORTAGE TOWNSHIP <br />ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, INDIANA <br />(YOUNG ANNEXATION) <br />STATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND INTENT <br />The Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, has <br />determined that it is in the best interest of the City of South Bend <br />to annex and bring within the corporate limits of the City of South <br />Bend certain territory that is contiguous with the City of South Bend. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, as follows: <br />SECTION I. That the following described real estate situated in St. <br />Joseph County, Indiana, being contiguous by more than one-fourth (1/4) <br />of its aggregate external boundaries with the present boundaries of <br />the City of South Bend, Indiana, shall be and hereby is annexed to and <br />brought within the City of South Bend, Indiana: <br />THAT PART OF THE NORTHWEST QUARTER OF SECTION 22, TOWNSHIP 37 NORTH. <br />RANGE 2 EAST, PORTAGE TOWNSHIP, ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, INDIANA, WHICH IS <br />DESCRIBED AS: BEGINNING AT A POINT ON THE WEST LINE OF SAID SECTION <br />210 FEET SOUTH OF THE NORTH LINE OF SAID SECTION; THENCE WEST <br />1,317.65 FEET PARALLEL TO THE NORTH LINE OF SAID SECTION TO THE <br />WEST LINE OF KALEY STREET AND ALSO BEING THE CITY LIMITS OF THE CITY <br />OF SOUTH BEND; THENCE SOUTH ALONG SAID WEST LINE TO THE NORTH RIGHT- <br />OF-WAY LINE OF STATE ROAD #23; THENCE NORTHEASTERLY ALONG SAID LINE <br />TO THE CENTERLINE OF LOCUST ROAD (OLIVE STREET); THENCE SOUTH ALONG <br />SAID CENTERLINE TO THE SOUTH RIGHT-OF-WAY LINE OF STATE ROAD #23; <br />THENCE SOUTHWESTERLY ALONG SAID LINE TO A POINT 211.43 FEET FROM THE <br />WEST LINE OF SAID SECTION; THENCE NORTH 5 DEGREES 40 MINUTES 27 <br />SECONDS WEST 400 FEET; THENCE SOUTH 58 DEGREES 07 MINUTES 20 SECONDS <br />WEST 177.48 FEET TO THE WEST LINE OF SAID SECTION; THENCE NORTH <br />ALONG SAID WEST LINE TO THE POINT OF BEGINNING. <br />SECTION II. That the above-described real estate is needed and can <br />be used by the City for its development in the reasonably near future. <br />SECTION III. That the boundaries of the City of South Bend, <br />Indiana, shall be and hereby are declared to be extended so as to <br />include all of the above-described real estate as a part of the City <br />of South Bend, Indiana. <br />SECTION IV. That the above-described area shall be and hereby is <br />assigned to the 6th Councilmanic District of the City of South Bend, <br />Indiana. <br />SECTION V.
