South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Regular Meeting –June 4, 2010

6. NEW BUSINESS (CONT.)

B. Airport Economic Development Area

(1) continued…

Mr. Gibney noted that Memorial Hospital
currently has a clinic at the Homeless Center.
If provided with a clear site, Memorial has
committed to building a new clinic there.

Mr. Varner asked if Memorial Hospital will
in some way compensate the city for
acquisition of the property. Mr. Gibney said
they would not. Memorial’s contribution
will be the new facility.

Mr. Gibney said it is important to use TIF to
benefit our low income community. More
people use the clinic at the Homeless Center
than actually reside at the center. This clinic
would serve a population that needs to be
served. If they are not served here, they will
be served at the emergency room. It’s also a
very nice clean-up project on an important
gateway to South Bend.

CRN.2692
Upon a motion by Mr. Downes, seconded by
OMMISSION APPROVED ESOLUTION O
DP
AMENDING THE EVELOPMENT LAN FOR THE
Mr. Alford and unanimously carried, the
AEDA
IRPORT CONOMIC EVELOPMENT REA AND
Commission approved Resolution No. 2692
L
ADDING ONE OR MORE PARCELS TO THE IST OF
amending the Development Plan for the
PA,
ARCELS TO BE CQUIRED AUTHORIZING THE
Airport Economic Development Area and
ADVERTISING FOR A PUBLIC HEARING
C
adding one or more parcels to the List of
FOLLOWING APPROVAL BY THE OMMON
C
OUNCIL
Parcels to be Acquired, authorizing the
advertising for a public hearing following
approval by the Common Council.

(2) Resolution No. 2693 related to acquisition
of property in the Airport Economic
Development Area.
