~_
un -_
w~
`0
___~ 2010 ANNUAL REPORT OF THE
INFORMATION AND TECHNOLOGY COMMITTEE
OF THE
SOUTH BEND COMMON COUNCIL
Pursuant to § 2-10 of the South Bend Municipal Code, the following 2010 Annual Report
of the Information and Technology~Committee is filed which highlights activities of this calendar
year.
Duties: The Information and Technology Committee is charged with "overseeing the various
activities of the City's information technologies so that all computer systems, websites, and
related technologies are maintained and upgraded so as to remain competitive and up-to-
date with current industry standards" pursuant to § 2-10 (i) 6) of the South Bend Municipal
Code (Emphasis added).
Members: There are four (4) Council Members on this Committee, namely: Council Member
LaFountain who served as Vice-Chairperson, Council Member Henry Davis, Jr., Council
Member Al "Buddy" Kirsits, and myself as Chairperson.
Meetings and Activities: Although we did not hold any committee meetings this year, informal
discussions on needed upgrades to the Council Chambers and the Council Informal Meeting
Room did take place. Continued discussions, in collaboration with the Office of the City Clerk,
will betaking place to formally continue to implement technological improvements.
The Information and Technology Committee will also be involved in continuing to upgrade the
Council's website, which provides for a wealth of information to the public.
The Information and Technology Committee should receive a formal update on Metro Net in
early 2011, so that the Council is aware of its overall operations and policies, and so that the
Council has the opportunity to have input.
In January we will be working with Council Rules Committee on Bill No. 75-10. The Council
and the City Administration will need to collaborate together. The City needs to have clear
policies and procedures in light of the many technological advances which are being made. I
look forward to working with you in 2011.
Respect submitted,
~` `- --_~
Council Member David Varner, Chairperson
Information and Technology Committee
_~ _ ~~
._ , ~~10
