REGULAR MEETING <br />APRIL 10, 1978 79 <br />FILING OF PETITION TO VACATE NORTH -SOUTH ALLEY BETWEEN MIAMI <br />AND DALE BY ST. JOSEPH BANK & TRUST COMPANY <br />The St. Joseph Bank & Trust Company files a petition to vacate <br />the north -south alley between Miami and Dale Streets, running south <br />from Donald Street to the first east -west alley. The petitioner <br />requests the vacation to allow for additional and improved parking <br />for the branch bank located there. Upon motion made by Mr. .McMahon, <br />seconded by Mr. Brunner and carried, the petition was .filed and <br />referred to the Department of Engineering for review and a utility <br />check and to the Area Plan Commission for a staff recommendation. <br />FILING OF PETITION TO VACATE EAST -WEST ALLEY FROM EDDY ST. TO PARRY ST. <br />Thomas and Kathleen Herrman, by their Attorneys, Amaral and Brook, <br />file a petition to vacate the east -west alley.running 115.5 feet <br />east and west from Eddy Street to Parry Street. Petitioners own <br />the property abutting the alley and would like to expand the <br />existing business operation of tenants Herrman & Goetz, Inc. The <br />alley is located between. Lot 13 of Samuel Parry's 2nd Addition to <br />the City of South Bend and Lot 12 of Samuel Parry's 1st Addition to <br />the City of South Bend. Upon motion made by Mr'. McMahon, seconded <br />by Mr. Brunner and carried, the petition was filed and referred to <br />the Department of Engineering for review and a utility check and to <br />the Area Plan Commission for a staff recommendation. <br />REPORT FILED - ;PETITION OF GURLEY -LEEP TO VACATE ALLEY <br />The petition of Gurley -Leep Buick to vacate the east -west alley between <br />Wayne and Jefferson Streets, running west from Lafayette Street to <br />the lst north -south alley was tabled by the Board, pending notification <br />by the Fire Department that they would like to resolve some matters <br />prior to further action. Captain William Shaffer, South Bend Fire <br />Department,.now advises the Board that, after discussions with Mr. <br />Frank Kasten of Gurley -L•eep and having received assurance in writing <br />that no service work or vehicle repair will take place in the two <br />buildings adjacent to the alley,•there would be no more firefighting <br />hazard in these buildings than in any other occupancy of this type. <br />Therefore, the Fire Department now has no objection to the proposed <br />vacation. Upon motion made by Mr. McMahon, seconded by Mr. Brunner <br />and carried, the report was filed and the petition was referred to <br />the Area Plan Commission for a staff recommendation. <br />HOPE CHAPEL CHURCH OF GOD PARADE APPROVED FOR JUNE 10 <br />Ralph J. Wadzinski, Manager of the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting, <br />reported to.the Board that the request of the Hope Chapel Church of <br />God to hold a Bible School Parade on Saturday, June 10 was reviewed. <br />The route.is the same as used in previous years and Mr. Wadzinski <br />noted that Captain James Sweitzer of the Police. Department Traffic <br />Detail concurs that approval can be given. Upon motion made by Mr. <br />McMahon, seconded by Mr. Brunner and carried, the parade request <br />was approved. <br />BID ADVERTISING APPROVED - NORTH IRONWOOD DRIVE IMPROVEMENTS <br />Patrick M. McMahon, Director of Public Works, requested permission <br />to advertise for bids for.the North Ironwood Drive improvements, <br />between State Road 23 and Edison Road. The project is to include <br />widening and signal work. Specifications are being prepared by the <br />Department of Engineering and an advertising date will be set. <br />Unon motion made by Mr. McMahon, seconded by:Mr. Brunner and carried, <br />the request was approved. <br />
