REGULAR MEETING <br />SEPTEMBER 24. 1979 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was convened at <br />9:30 a.m. on Monday, September 24, 1979 by Temporary Chairman <br />Peter H. Mullen, in the absence of President Patrick M. McMahon, <br />with Mr. Mullen and Mr. Brunner present. Deputy City Attorney <br />Terry A. Crone was also present, <br />AGENDA ITEMS ADDED <br />Mr. Mullen noted receipt of a request for an aerial show on <br />Thursday and a proclamation from the mayor after the posting <br />of the meeting agenda and he made a motion that the items be <br />added to the agenda at this time. Mr. Brunner seconded the <br />motion and it carried. <br />MAYOR NEMETH PRESENTS PROCLAMATION OF SAFETY WEEK <br />Mayor Peter J. Nemeth was present and presented to the Board <br />a Proclamation designating the week of September 24 to 28 as <br />City of South Bend Safety Week. Mayor Nemeth noted that the City <br />is proud of its past record for safety and will continue efforts <br />to upgrade the observance of all safety regulations. Upon motion <br />made by Mr. Mullen, seconded by Mr. Brunner and carried, the <br />Proclamation was accepted and filed. <br />APPROVAL OF AERIAL ACT <br />The Osolo Township Fire Department requested permission to hold <br />an aerial performance on River Bend Plaza, consisting of a high <br />wire act from Robertson's to the Sherland Building on Thursday, <br />September 27 at 4:30 p.m. Clearances from the building owners <br />and a certificate of insurance will be provided. Upon motion <br />made by Mr. Mullen, seconded by Mr. Brunner and carried, the <br />request was approved, subject to coordination of arrangements by <br />the Police Department Traffic Detail and to the filing of the <br />necessary clearances and insurance certificate. <br />OPENING OF BIDS - CHAPIN STREET ISLAND IMPROVEMENTS <br />This was the date set for receiving bids for the Chapin Street <br />Island Improvements. The Clerk tendered proofs of publication <br />of notice in the South Bend Tribune and the Tri- County News <br />which were found to be sufficient. The following bids were opened <br />and publicly read: <br />Ziolkowski Construction Company <br />South Bend, Indiana <br />Bid - $38,275.75 <br />Rieth Riley Construction Company <br />South Bend, Indiana <br />Bid - $40,027.45 <br />199 <br />Bid was signed by Ben Ziolkowski, <br />non - collusion affidavit was in <br />order and a 5% bid bond was submitted. <br />Bid was signed by Richard Ruhlman, <br />non - collusion affidavit was in <br />order and a 5% bid bond was submitted. <br />Upon motion made by Mr. Mullen, seconded by Mr, Brunner and carried, <br />the bids were referred to the Division of Engineering for review <br />and recommendation. <br />
