31 <br />REGULAR MEETING APRIL 23. 1979 <br />REQUEST FOR REPAIR OF RAILROAD CROSSINGS <br />Councilman Walter Kopczynski requested that the Board contact <br />railroad companies in regard to the repair of the following <br />railroad crossings: <br />Kemble Street, South of Prairie, Prairie Avenue, north of Indiana, <br />Calvert Street, west of Main, Ewing Avenue, west of Main and <br />the Olive- Sample Crossing. <br />Upon motion made by Mr. McMahon, seconded by Mr. Brunner and <br />carried, the request was referred to the Bureau of Traffic and <br />Lighting for contact with the railroads involved regarding the <br />crossing repairs. <br />PERMISSION TO SCRAP VEHICLES APPROVED <br />Louis Grounds, Manager of the Bureau of Vehicle Maintenance, <br />submitted to the Board the following list of vehicles which are <br />not repairable and requested permission to scrap them: <br />1972 <br />Fury <br />PK41G2D241960 <br />1973 <br />Vega <br />1V1SA3U202705 <br />1972 <br />Plymouth <br />PM45G2D284748 <br />1971 <br />Hornet <br />AlA05OE234558 <br />1972 <br />AMC <br />A2A187H246252 <br />1973 <br />Vega <br />1V77A3V329881 <br />1971 <br />Fury <br />PE41G1F197516 <br />1972 <br />Duster <br />VL29C2B347014 <br />1972 <br />Chev. <br />1K69H2J166055 <br />1973 <br />Matador <br />A3A1S7N340632 <br />Upon motion made by Mr, McMahon, seconded by Mr. Mullen and <br />carried, the Board approved the request to scrap the vehicles. <br />BID ACCEPTED FOR TRAFFIC SIGNAL CONTROLLERS <br />Joseph J. Pluta, Assistant Manager of the Bureau of Traffic and <br />Lighting, reported that the bids received for traffic signal <br />controllers had been reviewed and he recommended acceptance <br />of the low bid of Crescent Electric Company for all three items. <br />Upon motion made by Mr. McMahon, seconded by Mr. Brunner and <br />carried, the Board approved the recommendation to accept the low <br />bid OF $1,982,00 for Item #1, $6,789.00 for Item #2, and <br />$4,567.00 for Item #3. <br />REQUEST FOR PARKING BAN ON SOUTH WALNUT FILED <br />The Board received a petition from residents of the 2100 and 2200 <br />blocks South Walnut Street that parking be banned on one side of <br />the street in these blocks. It was noted that congestion caused <br />by parking vehicles narrows the street to one lane and emergency <br />vehicles cannot get through. Upon motion made by Mr. McMahon, <br />seconded by Mr. Brunner and carried, the petition was filed and <br />referred to the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting for review and <br />recommendation. <br />APPROVAL OF SALE OF CITY -OWNED LOTS <br />The Board was advised that more than one property owner submitted <br />requests to purchase two lots under the $1.00 program. The <br />requests were reviewed by the Engineering Department and all <br />are qualified adjacent property owners. The Engineering Department <br />recommended that the city -owned lot at 306 E. Fox Street be <br />divided equally between Mr, & Mrs, Andrew Dunn and Mr. & Mrs. <br />Paul Knebel and that the city -owned lot at 707 Pierce Street be <br />divided into three equal parcels and sold to Mr. & Mrs. Robert <br />Terry, Mr. & Mrs. Robert Fiedler and John Tankersley.
