September 12, 1955 A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held Monday, September 12, 1955, at 10 :00 A. M. Mr. J. A. Bickel was absent. The City Attorney, being present, cited the City Ordinance prohibiting this type of solicitation, and advised the inquirers that the Police Department has no other alternative than to enforce this-ordinance. The Board next took note of letter, dated September 6, 1955, from zmun A. Laven, addressed to the City Clerk, concerning the starling uisance in the neighborhood of the 1100 and 1200 blocks of Ewing, ictoria, Fairview and Altgeldt Streets, and took the matter under advise - ent. OLICE DEPARTMENT:. Chief of Police, R. J. Gillen, being present, recommended the ollowing changes in status of Police Department personnel: ROBERT W. SEALS to be demoted from Sergeant to the rank of Patrolman, effective 9/16/55. ROBERT R. URGONSKI to be promoted from rank of Patrolman' to the rank of Sergeant, effective 9/16/55• The above recommendations met with the Board's approval. The Board next considered a request for a six months leave of absence, with the alternative of resignation of Detective Sergeant Richard Brown. The resignation of this officer was, thereupon, accepted by he Board. Chief Gillen next brought to the Board's attention an accident nvolving a Police Department car and was given authorization to have a.maged car repaired by the Hiamilton Body Shop. DEPARTMENT: The Board then reviewed the bids opened at the previous regular eting to supply the Fire Department with 2500 feet of 2" double- jacket re hose and 400 feet of 12" double - jacket fire hose, with couplings. was the consensus of opinion that the bid of G. E. Meyer & Son, Inc., s the best bid offered, and contract was so awarded and the Clerk was rected to issue formal purchase order accordingly. A petition, bearing date of September 12, 1955, calling for the installation of a street light at the intersection of Rocknes Drive end M cArthur Avenue i ^,ra.s examined and referred to Supt. Ira Hunsberger for i vestggation and report. The Police Auxiliary School Patrol application of Corine Ross was e amined and ordered placed on file.
