September 12, 1955 <br />A regular meeting of the Board <br />of Public Safety was held Monday, <br />September 12, 1955, at 10 :00 <br />A. M. <br />Mr. J. A. Bickel was absent. <br />Minutes <br />sf the previous meeting were <br />read and <br />approved. The City Attorney, <br />being <br />present, cited the City Ordinance <br />prohibiting this type of solicitation, <br />and advised the inquirers <br />that the <br />Police Department has no other alternative than to enforce this-ordinance. <br />The Board next took note of letter, dated September 6, 1955, from <br />zmun A. Laven, addressed to the City Clerk, concerning the starling <br />uisance in the neighborhood of the 1100 and 1200 blocks of Ewing, <br />ictoria, Fairview and Altgeldt Streets, and took the matter under advise - <br />ent. <br />OLICE DEPARTMENT:. <br />Chief of Police, R. J. Gillen, being present, recommended the <br />ollowing changes in status of Police Department personnel: <br />ROBERT W. SEALS to be demoted from Sergeant to the <br />rank of Patrolman, effective 9/16/55. <br />ROBERT R. URGONSKI to be promoted from rank of Patrolman' <br />to the rank of Sergeant, effective 9/16/55• <br />The above recommendations met with the Board's approval. <br />The Board next considered a request for a six months leave of <br />absence, with the alternative of resignation of Detective Sergeant Richard <br />Brown. The resignation of this officer was, thereupon, accepted by <br />he Board. <br />Chief Gillen next brought to the Board's attention an accident <br />nvolving a Police Department car and was given authorization to have <br />a.maged car repaired by the Hiamilton Body Shop. <br />DEPARTMENT: <br />The Board then reviewed the bids opened at the previous regular <br />eting to supply the Fire Department with 2500 feet of 2" double- jacket <br />re hose and 400 feet of 12" double - jacket fire hose, with couplings. <br />was the consensus of opinion that the bid of G. E. Meyer & Son, Inc., <br />s the best bid offered, and contract was so awarded and the Clerk was <br />rected to issue formal purchase order accordingly. <br />A petition, bearing date of September 12, 1955, calling for the <br />installation of a street light at the intersection of Rocknes Drive end <br />M cArthur Avenue i ^,ra.s examined and referred to Supt. Ira Hunsberger for <br />i vestggation and report. <br />The Police Auxiliary School Patrol application of Corine Ross was <br />e amined and ordered placed on file. <br />There being no further business <br />m eting was adjourned at 11:55 A.
