These recommendations being considered by the Board as in the best <br />interests of the department, were approved and effective as of Wednesday, <br />March 16, 1955. <br />Chief Gillen then presented to the Board a letter from the Traffic <br />Institute, Northwestern University, announcing the awarding to Sgt. Carroll <br />I. Parfitt, a grant of $127.21 to.cover tuition, transportation and meals, <br />for attendance at the Supervision.of Personnel Course offered from March <br />21 to April 1, 1955. The Board approved Sgt. Parfitt's attendance and <br />directed the Chief to inform the officer accordingly, <br />The Police Department application of James D. Heck was examined and <br />bordered placed on file. <br />ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT: <br />A petition for the installation of two street lights in the 2000 <br />block of West Ewing Avenue, for improved lighting from the Prairie Avenue <br />intersection to Grant Street, was examined and referred to Superintendent <br />Hunsberger for investigation and report. <br />Superintendent Hunsbergerts recommendation for the installation of <br />a 4000 lumen light on Howard Street, between Talbot and Jacob Street, at <br />Pole No. 1236 -101, was approved by the Board. <br />In the matter of petitions, dated February 28, 1955, calling for <br />installation of street lights at the railroad crossings on Florence Street <br />Sibley Avenue, the Board approved the recommendation of Superintendent <br />Hunsberger to install a 4000 lumen light at '-each of these locations, <br />and directed the Clerk to notify the N.y.C.R.R. Co. officials concerned <br />to be present for a discussion of this matter at the next regular meeting <br />of the Board, Monday, March 21, 1955• <br />The Board next examined and ordered filed copies of letters to the <br />Trustees of Portage and German Townships, over the signature of Fire Chief <br />R. J. Duck, concerning impossibility .cif rendering service in event of <br />grass fires, and pointing out that such service is not included nt the <br />City's contracts with the townships. <br />The Fire DepartmenVs report covering runs made to fires outside the <br />City limits, for the period of February lst to February 12th inclusive, <br />was examined and ordered filed. <br />There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting <br />was adjourned at 11 :30 A.
