Duck <br />17.50 <br />The Fire Department application of Raymond L. Kowalski was examined <br />and ordered filed. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT: <br />The Board appointed Verner L. Lane to be a special police officer <br />in and for the City of South Bend, upon the recommendation of Chief of <br />Police, Richard J. Gillen. <br />Chief of Police, R. J. Gillen, being present, took up with the Board <br />certain problems pertaining to his departmentts responsibility with refer- <br />ence to injuries sustained by members of the Police Auxiliary School <br />Patrol. Also, Chief Gillen, requested advice as to the status of <br />indigents and /or "Welfare clients" in the matter of medical costs arising <br />in connection with such persons while in the custody of the police. The <br />decision of the Board in these matters was held in abeyance. <br />The Police Department application of Robert H. Robinson was examined <br />and order filed. <br />There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting <br />was adjourned at 11:35 A.
