J. Gillen, being present, presented the re- <br />quired papers for the appointment of William H. Cooper as a special <br />police' officer in and for the City of South Bend, in the employment of <br />the Bendix Aviation Corporation. The Board approved and signed these <br />papers,'making this appointment effective thereby. <br />FIRE DEPARTMENT <br />Fire Chief R. J. Duck, being present, brought to the attention of <br />the Board his departmentts need for 500ft. of 2 112 inch hose. The <br />Board approved the purchase. <br />The Fire Chief also discussed with the Board the feasibility of <br />securing a city -owned sewer - cleaning device in view of the repeated <br />excessive costs for the opening of Fire Station sewers, which work with <br />this equipment, could be performed by members of the Fire Department at <br />a substantial saving of municipal funds, in ,the opinion of the Chief.
