• <br />March 29, 1954 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held Monday, <br />March 29, 1954, at 10 :00 A. M. All members were present. Minutes of the <br />previous meeting were read and approved. Gillen, <br />with the required form and his recommendation for the appointment of <br />L. C. Barnes, employee of Collection Service, Inc., as a special police <br />officer in and for the City of South Bend. The Board approved the <br />appointment, which was, thereupon, signed and sealed. <br />The recommendation of Chief of Police, Richard J. Gillen, for the <br />increase of the deposit required for the supplying of an official <br />Special Police Badge, from the nominal amount of one dollar to that of <br />five dollars, for the purpose of satisfactory coverage of the actual <br />value of the badge and the added incentive for the return of these badges <br />upon cancellation of special police appointments, was next considered and <br />approved by the Board, effective this date. <br />ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT: <br />Upon the recommendation of Supt. Ira Hunsberger, 4000 lumen lights <br />are to be installed, with the approval of the Board, at the following <br />locations: <br />Northeast corner of the intersection of Parkway Lane and <br />Meadow Lane <br />At 2633 Gertrude Street-, 300 feet south of Light No.J304 -110 <br />Opening of bids was then announced in accordance with 10941 advertising, <br />and the Board proceeded in this matter, as follows: <br />SCHERMAN- SCHAUS- FREEMAN COMPANY <br />SOUTH BEND, INDIANA <br />For Police Department: <br />A non - collusion affidavit <br />and certified check in <br />the amount of $889.00 <br />accompanied the bid. <br />6 - 1954 Studebaker Champion Custom <br />4 -Door Sedans equipped as per <br />proposal ... .......................09253.92 <br />Less allowance for trade - ins....... 2370.00 <br />For Fire Department: <br />3.`�2 <br />1 - 1954 Studebaker Commander Deluxe <br />Station Wagon, as per proposal.... $1996.48 <br />
