Im <br />public places such as restaurants, to arrest <br />the alleged violator, as demanded by the offended <br />person, provided the offended person accompanies <br />the police officer and the violator for the purpose <br />of signing an affidavit charging the offense." <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT: <br />Chief of Police, Richard J. Gillen, being present, recommended to the <br />Board the appointment of Russell W. Bennitt as a special police officer. <br />Mr. Bennitt is an employee of the St. Joseph Bank and Trust Company. <br />The Board authorized the appointment and affixed their signatures <br />thereto. <br />Chief Gillen next took up with the Board his departmentts need <br />for six new four -door sedans, replacing a like number of sedans for <br />offer as "trade- ins ". Funds having been appropriated for the purpose <br />of such replacement.of equipment, the Board directed the Clerk to <br />proceed with the required legal advertising. <br />Police Department applications of Wayne E. Smith and Richard S. <br />Zoludow were examined and ordered placed on file. <br />FIRE DEPARTMENT: <br />Fire Chief, Richard J. Duck, being present, brought to the Boardts <br />attention the Fire Departmentts need for a station wagon for the use <br />of the Assistant Fire Chief, stressing the need for this particular <br />type of vehicle because of its being adaptable to the carrying of <br />necessary equipment such as stretchers, oxygen tanks, etc. Funds <br />being available to provide automotive equipment for the Fire Department, <br />the Board directed the Clerk to proceed with the legal advertising for <br />bids. <br />The Fire Department application of Kenneth D. Larson was examined <br />and ordered placed on file. <br />ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT: <br />Superintendent Ira Hunsberger was present and presented his <br />recommendation for the installation of a 4000 lumen light on the <br />southwest corner of Chapin and Cotter Streets. The Board approved <br />the recommendation. <br />The Board next considered a suggested method to improve the <br />lighting of Bendix Drive, and at the same time effect a saving in <br />cost to the City. This would involve that section between Westmoor <br />and Bertrand Streets. The suggested change, submitted over the sig- <br />nature of Superintendent Hunsberger, was approved by the Board. <br />The Annual Report of the Police Department was received and ex <br />by the Board and ordered filed. amined <br />There being no further business to come before the Board, the <br />meeting was adjourned at 11 :50 A.
