January 11, 1954 <br />A regular meeting of <br />the Board of <br />Public Safety was <br />held Monday, <br />January 11, 1954, at 10 :00 <br />A. M. All <br />members were present. <br />Minutes of <br />the previous meeting were <br />read and approved. <br />Claims of <br />the following <br />suppliers, in the amount <br />of $9329.46, <br />were approved and <br />ordered paid: <br />Gerber Mfg. Verkler <br />8260.20 <br />Weisberger Bros. Inc. <br />17.50 <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT: <br />Captain M. J. Voelkel appeared before the Board, recommending the <br />appointment of Harriet R. Hamilton to the Police Auxiliary School Patrol. <br />The Board examined the application of this candidate and approved the <br />appointment,' to be effective January 16, 1954- <br />° Upon° the recommendation of Captain M. J. Voelkel, Acting Chief of <br />Police in the absence of Police Chief, R. J. Gillen, the Board appointed <br />Harold R. Riley, employee of the National Bank and.Trust Company as a <br />special police officer, in and for the City of South Bend. <br />Police Department applications of the following were examined and <br />ordered placed on file: <br />Robert P. Bednarek <br />Joseph B. Landy, Jr. <br />Edward L. Durrell <br />Paul E. Moore <br />Arthur E. Hoyt <br />ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT: <br />Paul G. Jacobs Howard R. Bunch <br />Raymond J. Sweitzer <br />The recommendation of Superintendent Ira Hunsberger, for the install- <br />ation of a 4000 lumen light on South Magnolia Street at the alley inter- <br />section adjoining the premises numbered 1814, was approved by the Board. <br />The Electrical.pepartmentts need for regulation work clothing, <br />including boots and raincoats, for which funds were duly appropriated <br />and made available, was next brought to the attention of the Board. The. <br />Clerk was authorized to proceed with the purchase of these requirements. <br />FIRE DEPARTMENT: <br />The department t s need for manila rope, size 3/4" and 1t1, to the <br />total value of approximately $300.00, was considered and approval of the <br />Board was given to proceed with the purchase. <br />The Fire Department applications of Darwin W. Miller and John M. <br />Radzikowski were examined by the Board and ordered placed on file. <br />There being no further business to come before the Board, the <br />meeting was adjourned at 11 :10 A.
