and placed before the Board the
Charles E. Gant, employee of
the
Bendix Products Corporation, as
a special
police officer in and for
the
City of South Bend. The Board
approved
the appointment and it was,
accordingly, signed and sealed
forthwith.
The Board next reviewed the
promotions
-made-in special meeting of
Tuesday, December 22, 1953, and
approval
of promotions was amended,
ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT:
,
Superintendent Ira Hunsbergerts recommendation for the installation of
a 4000 lumen light at the alley intersection on the east side of Walnut Street,
between Washington Street and Colfax Avenue, received the approval of the
Board.
A petition, dated December 21, 1953, carrying the names of twenty
Elmer Street residents, requesting improved street lighting at the inter -
sections of Elmer and Marquette, and Elmer and Hamilton,,was examined
and referred to Superintendent Hunsberger for investigation and report.
FIRE DEPARTMENT:
Fire Chief, Richard J. Duck, being present, brought to the attention
of the Board, the need to secure signed contracts from the Trustees and
their Advisory Board, of Portage and German Townships, for the ensuing
year. The Chief pointed out that these contracts, based on 10 per $100.00
of the assessed valuation of the property'of the area so protected, is
actually, in his opinion, insufficient to cover actual cost to the City of
South Bend for the service rendered. The Board directed the Clerk to
Proceed to submit contracts for the continuing of this fire protection
service.
The Board next took up the matter of the claim of the Gamewell Company
covering equipment supplied'in accordance with contract signed October 27,
1952, (Purchase Order BVV4L.6 ), and it was agreed that full
A
is to be made by the City of South Bend, and the Clearing House tAssociation
billed by the City, for their proper portion of the cost of this equipment.
The Clerk was directed to proceed accordingly.
The Report of the South Bend Police Department for the month of
November was examined and ordered filed.
There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting
adjourned at 10 :50 A. M.
