<br />A regular meeting of the Board of.Public Safety was held Monday, 
<br />November 2, 1953, at 10:00 A. M. All members were present. Minutes of 
<br />the previous meeting were read and approved. Claims of the following

<br />FIRE DEPARTMENT: 
<br />Fire Chief, Richard J. Duck, being present, placed before the 
<br />Board a letter from the Firements Pension Fund concerning the membership 
<br />in the Fund of Fire Department appointees Robert L. Mitchell, John J. 
<br />Bukowski, Louis F. Schleiger, Charles J. "Kalil and James E. Sanders; 
<br />and the agreement of the Pension Fund Board of Trustees to the pensioning 
<br />of Julius J. Bukowski, found to be physically incapacitated by medical 
<br />examiner, Dr. J. C. English, pension to become effective November 16,1953. 
<br />The Board accordingly, released from duty Fireman Julius Bukowski, as 
<br />of November 1, 1953 and directed than his retirement from the Fire Depart- 
<br />ment become effective November 16, 1953• 
<br />The above letter also contained action taken by the Firements Pension 
<br />Fund Board of Trustees to bring the Fundst by -laws concerning age limit of 
<br />applicants in conformance with See. 15 of the 1937 Acts of the General 
<br />Assembly of the State of Indiana. 
<br />Fire Chief Duck then brought to the Boardis attention the urgent 
<br />need for complete overhaul of Engine No. 81 estimating the,cost of new 
<br />parts would be approximately X450.00. Funds being available, and the 
<br />urgency apparent, the Board approved the repair of this piece of equipment. 
<br />Attention was then called to the need for a transfer of funds for the 
<br />Fire Department to increase the appropriation for further emergency repair 
<br />of equipment and to meet gas bills, for which the appropriation is found 
<br />to be insufficient. The City Controller, being present, agreed to present 
<br />the request,to the Common Council, and the Board authorized this action. 
<br />POLICE DEPARTMENT; 
<br />Chief of Police, R. J. Gillen, being present, re- examined the bids 
<br />opened at ^the regular meeting of the Board, Monday, October 13th, and 
<br />recommended the acceptance of both bids.- The Board accepted the bids 
<br />accordingly, signed the contract, and directed.the Clerk to issue the 
<br />required purchase orders. 
<br />Applications for the Police Auxiliary School Patrol, submitted by 
<br />Viola Clemons and Jeanette V. Johnson, were examined and ordered placed 
<br />on file.
