POLICE DEPARTMENT: <br />Chief of Police; R. J. Gillen, being present, placed before the <br />Board, the applications of Robert J. Eaton and Emmet T. Owens, Jr., <br />which were examined and ordered filed. <br />ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT: <br />The recommendation of Supt. Ira Hunsberger for the installation of <br />a 6000 lumen light on the southeast corner of McKinley Boulevard, and <br />Tuxedo Drive was approved by the Board. <br />The Board authorized and ordered released, Purchase Order BW2372, <br />issued to encumber funds for the payment of Crouse -Hinds Company for <br />certain traffic signal supplies in the total amount of $398.86. <br />A petition, dated October 22, 1953, for a street light installation <br />on Oak Park Drive, between White Oak Drive and.South Bend Avenue, was <br />examined and referred to Supt. Hunsberger for investigation and report. <br />Taking up the matter of bids opened at the regular meeting of the <br />Board, Tuesday, October 13th, it was the decision of the Board to con- <br />tinue the matter in abeyance pending further consultation with Chief of <br />Police, R. J. Gillen, relative to his judgment and appraisal of the <br />equipment offered. <br />FIRE DEPARTMENT <br />Fire Chief, Richard J. Duck, being present, conferred with the <br />Board on matters pertaining to the Fire Department. <br />The Fire Department applications of Thomas E. Owens, Jr. and <br />Daniel C.Szczechowski, and the renewed Fire Department application of <br />Richard C. Collmer, were examined and ordered placed on file. <br />Reports covering runs made to out -lying area from October 4th to <br />21st inclusive, involving Engine Cos. 8, 10, 11, 12 and 13,were ordered <br />filed. <br />Report of the South Bend Police Department for the month of <br />September 1953 was received and ordered filed. <br />There being no further business to come before the Board, the <br />meeting was adjourned at 11 :30 A.
