w <br />July 6, 1953' <br />A regular meeting of the <br />Board of Public Safety was held Monday, <br />July 6, 1953 at 10:00 A. Ni. <br />Minutes <br />of the previous meeting were <br />read <br />and approved. Salary claims, <br />in.the <br />total amount of $74,239.57, <br />were <br />approved. Cichowicz, Inspector <br />of <br />Weights & Measures, submitted <br />the <br />Annual Report of Division of <br />Weights <br />and Measures from July 7, <br />1952 to <br />June 30, 1953• The Board examined this report and ordered same <br />placed <br />on file. <br />The Board approved the appointment of Steve Lupa, 1514 Lincolnway <br />West, South Bend, Indiana, an employee of Oliverts Plant,.#2, as a <br />special police officer in and for the City of South Bend, Indiana, <br />upon the recommendation of Chief Gillen. <br />ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT: <br />Next appeared before the Board, Ira Hunsberger, Electrical <br />Superintendent, recommending the installation of a 4000 lumen light <br />on the northeast corner of Carlisle and Calvert Streets. <br />At the request of the Mayor, Mr. Hunsberger contacted Mr. Koczan, <br />President of the Rum Village Businessmen's Association, regarding better <br />street lighting on west Indiana Avenue from Main Street to Kemble <br />Avenue, and after inspection, recommended changing the twelve lights <br />in this area from 4000 lumen to 6000 lumen lights and also recommended <br />new fixtures. The Board approved Mr. Hunsberger's recommendation for <br />better lighting on west Indiana Avenue. <br />The Fire Department;Injuries Report for the month of June 1953 <br />and Captain's and Lieutenantts Daily Report runs made by Company No13 <br />into German- Township, and Company No. 12, into Portage Township, under <br />date of June 23rd, were examined by the Board and ordered filed. <br />There being no further business to come before the Board, the <br />meeting was adjourned at 11 :25 A.
