'o a <br />of Fire Underwriters, and the letter of the Underwriters Chicago <br />office was ordered filed. <br />Some discussion was next given the need for replacement of the <br />pumper, used by Central Fire Station, which makes runs to all fires, <br />including those beyond the city limits, and because of this severe <br />and heavy usage, has reached the point's where operative costs, due <br />to frequent breakdowns, have become excessive. The Chief suggested, <br />however, that upon replacement, the present t1Squad!' pumper would be <br />given a complete overhaul and transferred to a station where, with <br />greatly reduced activity, it would be available to render limited <br />service for a further period of years. <br />Some discussion was also given to the possible elimination of <br />one or two old fire stations; the matter having been brought to the <br />Boardts attention by Miss Virginia Guthrie, Executive Secretary of <br />the South Bend Civic Planning Association. <br />ELECTRICAL DEPARTITEENT: <br />Superintendent Ira Hunsbergerts recommendation for the installation <br />of 6000 lumen lights on Lincoln Way West at the following three inter- <br />sections; these lights rea <br />by the Board :' yuiring 20 -foot mast arms; was next approved <br />Sheridan Avenue <br />Knoblock Street <br />Maplewood Avenue <br />The installation of 4000 lumen lights, upon the recommendation of <br />Superintendent Hunsberger, for the following five locations, was approved <br />by the Board: <br />Intersection of Essex Drive and Preston_ Drive <br />Intersection of Preston Drive and Chamberlin Drive <br />Between 3102 and 3106 Wilder Drive <br />Intersection of Salem Drive and Wilder Drive <br />Intersection of Essex Drive and Chamberlin Drive. - <br />A request from former Mayor, Fred W. Keller, and petitions from <br />north Elmer Street residents and property owners in the area of Laurel <br />Street, between Washington and Jefferson,.for improved lighting were <br />referred to Superintendent Hunsberger for investigation and report. <br />A request for the removal of a light bracket from its present <br />location on Laurel Street, between t'Uashingtcn and Jefferson, was referred <br />to Superintendent Hunsberger for investigation and removal, if in his <br />opinion, this is desirable. <br />The Fire Department application of Norman J Rubin was examined <br />and ordered placed on file. ' <br />Report of Engine Company 21, covering run made May 12th to out- <br />lying Portage Township territory, was examined and ordered filed. <br />The Police Department's April Report was received and ordered <br />filed. <br />There being no further business to come before the Board, the <br />meeting adjourned at 11 :05 A.
