South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Special Meeting –August 27, 2010

6. NEW BUSINESS (CONT.)

A. Public Hearing

(1) continued…

Group has been doing in this area. They
have been very up front in their dealings with
us. They’ve been very cooperative and we
look forward to working with them as we
move forward. Hopefully, this will put them
over the top to get their tax credit financing.
We urge your favorable approval of this
resolution.

LINDA WOLFSON: I’m also a member of
the Steering Committee, representing the
Community Forum for Economic
Development. The thing that is different
about the Community Forum is that we’re
not specifically from that area, although we
have many participants who do live in the
LaSalle Square area. We include people
from throughout the county. We’re in favor
of this as a step in the way to transforming
that area and bringing it back to the potential
we believe it has. It’s not unique in the city,
or in the Midwest, or in the nation in the
challenges that it faces. One of the things
that is different about it, to some degree, is
the tremendous effort that’s been put in by
members of that neighborhood, by members
of that general area, first to save the public
library the first time, which is what caught
the attention of the Community Forum, then
in the participation and public process that
developed the redevelopment plan, and now
in support for the urban garden market which
is a fun and successful place. We thank
those of you who have attended. We hope
everyone else will get to see it before it ends
on October 2. Finally, in the tremendous
7
