REGULAR MEETING JULY 12, 2010 <br /> <br /> <br />BILL NO. 36-10 PUBLIC HEARING ON A BILL OF THE <br /> COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH <br /> BEND, INDIANA, APPROPRIATING $300,000 <br /> OUT OF SEWAGE WORKS CAPITAL FUND <br /> (#642) TO PAY COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH <br /> UPGRADE OF A RAW SEWAGE PUMP <br /> REQUIRED TO MEET PERMIT <br /> REQUIREMENTS AT THE WASTEWATER <br /> TREATMENT PLANT <br /> <br />Councilmember Kirsits, Vice-Chairperson, Utilities Committee, reported that this <br />committee met this afternoon on this bill and sends it to the Council with no <br />recommendation due to a lack of a quorum. <br /> <br />Mr. Jack Dillon, Director, Environmental Services, 3113 Riverside, Drive, South Bend, <br />Indiana, made the presentation for this bill. <br /> <br />Mr. Dillon advised that this bill would allow for the appropriation of $300,000 to cover <br />rehabilitation and upgrade of the old Raw Sewage Pump #1 which was recently replaced. <br />A second of three raw sewage pumps at the wastewater plant required to meet “firm <br />capacity” requirements in the NPDES permit issued by IDEM to the City has failed and <br />needs replacing. He stated that rebuilding and upgrading the replaced #1 pump is the <br />most cost effective way to continue to meet this permit requirement. Mr. Dillon stated <br />that by rehabilitation and upgrade of the old raw sewage pump #1 saved over a million <br />dollars. <br /> <br /> <br />BILL NO. 30-10 PUBLIC HEARING ON A BILL OF THE <br /> COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH <br /> BEND, INDIANA, AMENDING VARIOUS <br /> SECTIONS OF ARTICLE 9, OF CHAPTER 2 OF <br /> THE SOUTH BEND MUNICIPAL CODE <br /> ADDRESSING THE HUMAN RIGHTS <br /> ORDINANCE BY THE INCLUSIONS OF NEW <br /> PROVISIONS ADDRESSING EMPLOYMENT <br /> FAIRNESS <br /> <br /> <br />Councilmember Varner made a motion to continue this bill until the July 26, 2010 <br />meeting of the Council at the request of the petitioner.
