LuEcn, MAYOR <br />DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS <br />June 17, 2010 <br />Mr. Derek Dieter, <br />President <br />South Bend Common Council <br />In Re: Ordinance Appropriating $300,000 for Raw Sewage Pump <br />Rehabilitation. <br />Dear President Dieter: <br />The attached ordinance is offered for Council consideration. It deals with a new <br />appropriation from Sewage Works Capital Fund ( #642) under the category of "Treatment <br />and Disposal of Equipment" in the 2010 Sewage Works Capital budget for wastewater. <br />Sufficient monies are in Fund #642 to cover this requested appropriation. <br />The total dollar amount to be appropriated is $ 300,000. These funds will be <br />primarily used to cover rehabilitation and upgrade of the old Raw Sewage Pump # I <br />which was recently replaced. A second of the three raw sewage pumps at the wastewater <br />plant required to meet "firm capacity" requirements in the NPDES permit issued by <br />IDEM to the City has failed and needs replacing. Rebuilding and upgrading the replaced <br />number 1 pump is the most cost effective way to continue to meet this permit <br />requirement. <br />We believe this to be an emergency and appreciate the Council's consideration of <br />this appropriation request. <br />I will make the formal presentations and am available anytime if you have <br />questions. <br />Sincerely, <br />ohn(6�-Ilon <br />Department of Public Works <br />Gary A.
