<br />A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, PUBLICLY
<br />COMMENDING THE JOHN ADAMS HIGH SCHOOL'S MOCK TRIAL TEAM FOR WINNING THE 2010 INDIANA
<br />HIGH SCHOOL MOCK TRIAL COMPETITION AND FOR ACHIEVING THE
<br />EAGLE'S lOTFi CONSECUTIVE INDIANA CHAMPIONSHIP
<br />"~,~1~~, the Indiana High School Mock Trial Program is designed to "stimulate & encourage a deeper
<br />understanding & appreciation of the American legal system" where students are given the opportunity to "acquire
<br />skills in critical thinking and reasoning, oral advocacy, team work and citizenship"; and
<br />`'~`~%~~a~, through mock trials based on a hypothetical case, high school students gain an understanding of
<br />society's approach to dispute resolution and justice through an experiential learning opportunity where they can
<br />acquire skills in critical thinking and reasoning, effective communication, team work and citizenship involving a
<br />hypothetical case where mock trial team members compete in actual courtrooms and display their knowledge; and
<br />`'~%b, the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, is especially proud to recognize that the
<br />John Adams High School Mock Trial Team has won the Indiana High School Mock Trial State Championships in
<br />1997-1998, 1998-1999, 2000-2001, 2001-2002, 2002-2003, 2003-2004, 2004-2005, 2005-2006, 2006-2007, 2007-
<br />2008, 2008-2009, 2009-2010; and
<br />"~ z~~, the Common Council would especially like to publicly recognize each of the members of the 2009-
<br />2010 John Adams High School Mock Trial Team called "Mark it Zero" under the direction of Judith Overmyer,
<br />the teacher at John Adams who oversees this outstanding program, Coaches Erin Linder, John Scanlan and Lucas
<br />Burkett; for representing the State of Indiana at the 27"' National High School Mock Trial Championship held in
<br />Philadelphia, Pennsylvania May 6-9, 2010; and thanks each of these talented "Team Indiana" Adams students:

<br />Section I. On behalf of all of the citizens of the City of South Bend, Indiana, the Common Council
<br />hereby congratulates each and every member of the 2009-2010 John Adams High School Mock Trial
<br />Team, their program's organizer and sponsor, Judith Overmyer, and coaches Lucas Burkett, Erin Linder, and
<br />John Scanlan for winning the 2009-2010 Indiana High School Mock Trial Championship, making this the
<br />10~h consecutive championship won by the Eagles teams.
<br />Section II. The South Bend Common Council believes that the hard-work, discipline, and dedication
<br />of each of these especially dedicated and talented students to be excellent role models for all students
<br />throughout our state; and each team member has brought the highest of honors to themselves, their family
<br />and friends, John Adams High School, the South Bend Community School Corporation, and all of the
<br />residents of the City of South Bend, Indiana. The Council hopes that the Adams Eagles will be representing
<br />the State of Indiana in next year's national competition in Phoenix, Arizona.
