~C,F~ :Re <br />PUBLIC AGENDA SESSION MARCH 9, 2005 <br />The Board of Public Safety met in the Public Agenda Session at 8:05 a.m. on Wednesday, February <br />16, 2005 with President Jesusa Rodriguez with Board Members Wesley Taylor and Donald Alford <br />present. Board Member Elmer: Carr was not present. Also present were Police Chief Thomas H. <br />Fautz, Fire Chief Luther Tailor and Board Attorney Thomas Bodnar. <br />The meeting was held in the Board of Public Works Meeting Room, 13`" Floor, County City <br />Chief Fautz invited the Board to attend a Safety Committee Training Session scheduled for <br />March 16, 2005, at 3:30 p.m. at the Police Department. This training schedule was set for <br />the Common Council, in order for them to better understand what the Police Department <br />does. <br />- Charge OS-02 -Fire Department , <br />Mr. Bodnar stated the Board should accept and file the Charges as submitted, and the Board <br />will need to set a meeting to set the hearing date. <br />- Retirements -Fire Department <br />Chief Taylor stated there are two (2) retirements in good standing. <br />- Monthly Statistics -Fire Department <br />Chief Taylor stated the statistics are for the month of January 2005. The original statistics <br />submitted were incorrect. <br />Building, South Bend, Indiana. <br />- Minutes <br />Mr. Bodnar stated the minutes had been reviewed and there were no changes. <br />- Retirements -Police Department <br />Mr. Bodnar stated there was nothing unusual about the retirement; the Board should <br />acknowledge and approve them. <br />- F.O.P. Grievance <br />Mr. Bodnar stated he left a message on March 8, 2005 for the F.O.P. President regarding the <br />Grievance. Chief Fautz mentioned that the F.O.P. President was not working on that date. <br />The Grievance concerns the matter of whether an injury to a Police Office was considered on <br />duty or not. The Grievance was submitted on March 3, 2005. Chief Fautz stated that the <br />Officer did not realize his attendance at the Board meeting was needed. More discussions <br />will follow after the Board has ample time to review the Grievance. Mr. Bodnar suggested <br />the Board accept and file the Grievance, and continue it to the next meeting. <br />- Demotion -Police Department <br />Mr. Bodnar stated there a certain circumstances regarding the Officer's request for a <br />demotion. Chief Fautz stated there were no positions within his position for working hours <br />during the day, and the Officer wished to be demoted in order to work daytime hours. In <br />addition, several officers throughout the past year have done this. <br />' -Monthly Statistics -Police Department <br />Chief Fautz stated there were no homicides during February 2005, and the crime rate has <br />gone down. <br />ADJOURNMENT <br />There being no further business to come before the Board, President Rodriguez declared the meeting <br />adjourned at 8:31 a.m. <br />' BOARD OF PUB IC SAFETY <br />n ,. <br />Rodriguez, <br />rJ f~ <br />~-~ <br />Dona d L.
