i s p~ b~,_ <br />PUBLIC AGENDA SESSION FEBRUARY 16, 2005 <br />The Board of Public Safety met in the Public Agenda Session at 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February <br />16, 2005 with President Jesusa Rodriguez with Board Members Wesley Taylor and Elmer Carr <br />present. Board Member Donald Alford was not present. Also present were Police Chief Thomas <br />H. Fautz, Fire Chief Luther Taylor and Board Attorney Thomas Bodnar. <br />The meeting was held in the Board of Public Works Meeting Room, 13`h Floor, County City <br />Building, South Bend, Indiana. <br />- Review of Minutes <br />President Rodriguez advised that Mr. Joseph Simeri's name should be included on Page OS <br />under section "Regular Meeting". <br />- Charge 05-01 -Police Department <br />Mr. Bodnar stated this will be discussed at the Executive Session. <br />- Request for Promotions -Police Department <br />Chief Fautz explained these promotions are due to retirements, resignations and vacancies <br />due to other promotions. Many of the specialized departments have been upgraded, and two <br />(2) of these promotions are new positions. The promotions of Darryl Boykins and Jeff <br />Walters are the prerogative of the Mayor. The Board acknowledges these appointments. <br />- Request for Medical Leave -Police Department <br />Chief Fautz indicated the request for Medical Leave is for the police officer seriously injured <br />in a motorcycle accident. This officer had attempted to return to work, however, was unable <br />to. This extension will be the final extension for this officer. <br />- Monthly Statistics -Police Department <br />Chief Fautz stated most of the categories have gone down in numbers; burglaries have <br />increased slightly. Chief Fautz explained several types of meetings the Police Department <br />have to discuss issues and solutions for neighborhoods. By dialoguing with the <br />neighborhood residents, City Council and City staff, some "hot spots" and crime have been ' <br />eliminated. Chief Fautz will forward meeting schedules to President Rodriguez, and also <br />invited the Board to attend any of these meetings if they so desire. <br />- Request for Retirement -Fire Department <br />Chief Taylor stated this firefighter is retiring in good standing. <br />- Monthly Statistics -Fire Department <br />Chief Taylor withdrew the Monthly Statistics for clarifications of some statistics. In <br />addition, he stated that recruit school has begun for firefighters, and now that the new Fire <br />Station is completed, more training can take place in South Bend, rather that traveling. <br />Mr. Bodnar reminded the Board of the individual that was placed on administrative leave without <br />pay. This individual was arrested, and entered a guilty plea, which is under advisement. The <br />individual has not yet been sentenced. Mr. Bodnar advised that charges may be filed shortly. <br />ADJOURNMENT <br />There being no further business to come before the Board, President Rodriguez declared the meeting <br />adjourned at 8:28 a.m. <br />BOARD OF PUBLIC SAFETY <br />ln2 <br />Jes sa odriguez, Preside <br />D ald L.
