REGULAR MEETING APRIL 26, 2010 <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />This being the time heretofore set for the Public Hearing on the above bill, proponents <br />and opponents were given an opportunity to be heard. <br /> <br />Mr. Jerry Niezgodski, 2930 Bonds Avenue, South Bend, Indiana, spoke in favor of this <br />bill. <br /> <br />Mr. Niezgodski stated that when the plans for the 12 story hotel with condos on top was <br />first proposed for this project he was against the 12 story height. Mr. Niezgodski stated <br />that now after he has seen the construction at Eddy Street Commons, a 12 story hotel <br />with condos would fit in nicely. <br /> <br />There being no one else present wishing to speak to the Council either in favor of or in <br />opposition to this bill, Councilmember Dieter made a motion for favorable <br />recommendation to full Council concerning this bill. Councilmember Oliver Davis <br />seconded the motion which carried by a voice vote of nine (9) ayes. <br /> <br /> <br />BILL NO. 22-10 PUBLIC HEARING ON A BILL OF THE <br /> COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH <br /> BEND TO TRANSFER ALONZO WATSON <br /> PARK FROM THE BOARD OF PARK <br /> COMMISSIONERS TO THE CIVIL CITY OF <br /> SOUTH BEND <br /> <br />Councilmember Puzzello, Chairperson, PARCS Committee reported that this committee <br />met this afternoon on this bill and voted to send it to the full Council with a favorable <br />recommendation. <br /> <br />th <br />Mayor Stephen Luecke, 14 Floor County-City Building, 227 W. Jefferson Blvd., South <br />Bend, Indiana, made the presentation for this bill. <br /> <br />Mayor Luecke advised that this bill would allow for the transfer of ownership of Alonzo <br />Watson Park to the Civil City of South Bend, in order to facilitate the completion of the <br />Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center. At the April 19, 2010, meeting of the <br />South Bend Board of Park Commissioners they recommended that Alonzo Watson Park <br />be transferred to the Civil City of South Bend. He stated that under Indiana Code the <br />Common Council has the authority to transfer park land and asked for their favorable <br />consideration. <br /> <br />There being no one present wishing to speak to the Council either in favor of or in <br />opposition to this bill, Councilmember Oliver Davis made a motion for favorable <br />recommendation to full Council concerning this bill.
