Office of the Mayor

NEWS RELEASE
May 6, 2010
11:30 AM

South Bend Certified Realtors will ‘Refresh River Park’

Contact:
Mikki Dobski, Director of Communications & Special Projects, 235-5855 or 876-1564

or Sue Solmos, Residential Marketing Specialist, 235-5879

Seven homes in South Bend’s River Park neighborhood will receive a light fix-up this
Saturday, May 8, courtesy of a partnership involving neighbors and the South Bend
Certified Realtors.

Joining with the River Park Neighborhood Association and its Housing & Safety
Committee, the South Bend Certified Realtors will plant flowers, replace windows, paint
homes and perform light carpentry. The activity will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30
p.m. Saturday with participants gathering on the 1000 block of Bellevue Avenue near
Indiana University South Bend.

“This private partnership is an unexpected and extraordinary dividend of the City’s public
strategy to enhance the attractiveness of South Bend neighborhoods,” said Sue Solmos,
founder of the “SELL South Bend” initiative. “‘Refresh River Park’ will help elderly and
at-risk residents spruce up their homes while enhancing the strong bonds of community
and neighborliness already present in South Bend.”

River Park’s Housing & Safety Committee has been involved in similar activity for more
than a year – which impressed the South Bend Certified Realtors. Members raised private
donations and in-kind contributions to support Saturday’s work. (City tax dollars are not
involved in this initiative.)

The South Bend Certified Realtors include 48 graduates of a series of real-estate
certification classes prepared by the City of South Bend’s “SELL South Bend” initiative.
Each of the Certified Realtors received special training about South Bend neighborhoods,
history, attractions and distinctive offerings.

- 30 -
