South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Regular Meeting –April 9, 2010

remonstrance that were written addressed
publicaly and he said they were.

Mr. Chris Davey
: Grubb and Ellis, Cressy &
Everett. I’d like to give some perspective
here. We own the shopping center where
Martin’s is, built it in the mid ‘80s. We don’t
own the Menard’s parcel, that is owned by a
group called Kimco, but it looks like it is all
one center. A number of years ago, Bill
(Schalliol) contacted us because they had
ideas, you probably saw the pictures in the
paper, maybe you remember and maybe you
don’t, but they were talking about doing
something like this and taking a lot of water
across the street to the golf course. That is
when we first got involved in talking to the
City because we own that property and
obviously that has an impact on us, as well.
So, that’s how we got involved in this project
a number of years ago. At the time it just
didn’t work out.

Maybe it was two years ago or a year and a
half ago, Bill got back in touch with me and
asked me if we would have some interest in
this. We really like the idea of what they
were doing here because it created some
more opportunities from our perspective to
develop that area where the existing ponds
are. I don’t know how long those ponds have
been there but they were there before we
built the shopping center. So they have been
there for some time. I think the City is on the
right path in doing what they are doing. For
Mrs. Brady and her family, I think what they
will do is probably lessen the possibility of a
need for flood insurance verses the other way
it is now. I and my sons went out and spoke
to all of the people that are here today that
are impacted by this property. I tried getting
in touch with the Keszei family and I don’t
23
