South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Regular Meeting –March 5, 2010

6. NEW BUSINESS

A. Public Hearing

(1) continued…

impact on them. It’s drawing more and more
people. But it’s needed.

You know how pilot projects go, but you
don’t want to miss it. You don’t want to be
looking at the small picture. You can’t give
up on small beginnings. But the greatness
will soon come if this continues to go,
because, no matter what, there has to be a
change out here. In South Bend, there has to
be a change. Because we know that our kids
don’t have to continue to drop out of school.
We don’t have to see their grades just go
down. We can make an impact and make the
grades go up. We don’t have to see the older
guys continue going in and out of prison
because they feel like they don’t have hope,
they don’t have a chance at life. It’s time to
see a change. And it can start right here in
South Bend. It can spread to other little
cities. But we have to stay together as a unit.

I want to thank the Redevelopment board for
allowing us to do this last year. I’ll be
thankful if we can do it again. And I’ll be
thankful if we don’t. But the blessing will be
if we can, because, no matter what, this work
has to be done. That’s all I have to say
today. I thank you for your time.

MS. LINDA CARTER, 26801Gene Ct. I’m
not speaking on behalf of Project Impact, but
I’m impressed with what I heard. This is
another program that I need to mention,
regarding the same funds. I’m speaking on
behalf of YouthBuild, South Bend. IAGO.
11
