We anticipate renovation expenses to be modest ($20- 30,000) because the apprentices will provide much of the labor without charge. Previously, the college had planned to move the apprentices into the Habitat building on bast Sample Street. If the college also can acquire the Enyart property, we will instead move the Workforce and Economic Development (WED) department into the Habitat building. This move will free up additional, much - needed space in the main building on Dean Johnson Boulevard. It also will give WED greater visibility, increasing awareness of its customized training services for business and industry. 0 Mason's ideating property: Use for storage, Vacant land included with these properties will be converted to parking spaces to serve the buildings, and the college will invest in lighting that will improve the safety and security of the area. These moves will enable the region to: ® Tear down the block building west of ITOSS (with funding already approved by the Redevelopment Commission) and create a much- needed parking lot to serve students, staff and visitors using the ITOSS building, Currently, we are unable to use the classrooms in ITOSS for regularly scheduled classes and honor requests for community meeting space because of the lack of parking. Renovate the area in the ITOSS building currently occupied by the painters for more classrooms and office space. This renovation will be funded through federal stimulus dollars. Expand liberal arts programming in the main building. The college anticipates substantial growth in demand for transferable liberal arts courses. ® Accommodate the Respiratory Therapy program, currently housed in a building across from Memorial Hospital, and add the Surgical Technology program to meet community needs. Provide more office space in the main building to accommodate increases in full - time faculty and Student Services staff to better serve growing enrollment and enhance student outcomes, Under the 25 -year campus expansion plan, these properties are scheduled to become primarily green space to accornnlodate outdoor college and community activities and contribute to a pleasing urban campus environment, As you know, we ask not for Ivy 'l ech, but for the community, Given the experience of mature community college systems in other states, we can say with confidence that the number of students and employers seeking educational and training services at Ivy ]'cob will continue to grow far into the future.
