South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Regular Meeting –March 5, 2010

Notre Dame. So, the issue is really is the job
readiness and providing some of the ways to
overcome the obstacles of the backgrounds
some of the students have presented. I think
there’s not any question about the ability of
the students to handle jobs in the work
environment.

I just want to mention, I’m tremendously
impressed with the work that Rev. Blake and
James Summers and Shane Peters have been
doing. They are tremendously dedicated to
this program, as I think you can tell. They
put their heart and soul into it and it’s really
made a difference.

This program is certainly good for the
students, but it’s good for the rest of us in the
community. All of us who have an interest
in South Bend and South Bend being a
vibrant community. I want to see this
program work. It’s good for the students, it’s
good for business, it’s good for the general
community. And it sends a strong message
beyond this particular program. It sends a
message that we as a society believe in
people, we don’t want to throw people away.
That we want to invest in people. This is
really our strength. Thank you.

There was no one else who wished to speak
regarding Resolution No. 2651. Ms. Jones
closed the public hearing for whatever action
the Commission wished to take.

(2) Approval of Resolution No. 2651.

Ms. King asked for clarification that
Resolution No. 2651 only approves the
appropriation of funds, not the Agreement for
Services. That will be up for action later on
the agenda. Ms. Jones confirmed that is
18
